Pulled the 2004 Silverado outta' the garage so as to wheel the 22-inch self-propelled Toro lawnmower with its 6.5 horsepower Briggs & Stratton engine with 20 ounces of Havoline 5w30 lubricating its innards and with the rear wheels greased via the two zerks with GM chassis lubricant outside so as to mow the lawn.
Very hot and humid so put the red bandana on the forehead to keep the sweat out of they eyes.
Mowed half the lawn then took a break, moving the Chevy onto a mowed part of the lawn under the shade of the BIG trees to keep the sun's rays off the paint.
Huddled inside the shanty, peeking at the BITOG site, a sudden THUD startled me. THe shanty shook. Oh my!!! What was that? Didn't see a protruding grille in the shanty so it wasn't a wayward vehicle.
Rushing outside I saw the HUGE tree limb upon the lawn. Part of it was on the roof and part was caressing the front of the truck.
Sniff.
The truck sits in that spot much less than one-percent of the time. There was no wind, nothing to prompt the limb to come crashing down.
Sniff.
I was mowing in that spot earlier and the branch was BIG and heavy enuff to kill a person.
Sniff.
Off to the Chevy dealer. Estimated at over $3,000 to repair.
Sniff.
There's gotta' be a moral in there somewhere.
Hug your truck because you never know what may happen?
Chicken Little was right?
Wear a hard hat while mowing?
I think I know why it happened, though. Spent 10 hours detailing the truck a couple days ago. If I hadn't done that the branch would likely still be up there.
Sniff.
But, no one was hurt, the Earth still spins, and there's food in the cupboard. So.... what the macaroni.... I remember the 'Nam combat vet who told me years ago..... if nobody's dying what's the big deal?
The truck will be akin to the Phoenix, rising from the ashes. It will shrug this event off and eventually look like new, as it did before being mugged by that branch.
But, still, there's gotta' be a moral in the event. I guess.
Burp.
