Totally agree.
If the item is packed properly, it will handle the rigors or shipping, such as holes, tears or dents in the packaging.
Thing is, everyone want's cheap or free, so apparently it's worth it for the seller to assume the risk of damage by saving money on packaging.

I had something delivered that was destroyed...I have worked with warehouse equipment, and the only thing I can think of that would explain the damage is that it was crushed by a clamp truck.
I have also had things left on the porch (NOT the covered area a few feet away!) in pouring rain! Fortunately, they were things that rain wouldn't damage.
My last oil sample was returned to me looking like someone had run over Blackstone's black mailing container with a forklift. I suspect this is because it was, in fact, run over with a forklift!
