From what I have read here and other places, Shell Rotella T 15w40 seems to be a good grade of mineral oil that is pretty universal for use in older gasoline engines with flat tappet cams (that need ZDDP for proper lubrication of the tappets and cams), diesels engines, and even motorcyles with wet clutches. Is this the consensus from most that this is true?

The same goes for other HDEOs like Delvac 1300S, Delo 400, Pennzoil Longlife, Castrol Tection Extra. I would limit the OCI for aftermarket hipo cams and springs.

I use either Rotella or Delo 15w40 in the mild-built 454 in my 57 Chevy. Engine has been together since 87, never any problems with oil pressure, sludge, etc.

My OCI is based on time, not miles though! Don't drive it as often as I should.
