So, we should just pat him on the back and allow him to continue in his backward ways until he has at least 1000 posts?

He came to ask questions and he's getting straight answers. It's up to him what he does with the advice he's been given.

Why not 5W40, T6?

Another good point.

Yes, because only someone with 23244 posts on an oil forum would consider it to backward.

I am not the only one in this thread thinking he's running an oil that's thicker than needed, am I?

I don't see a need to run an oil that thick, but he said he is aware of the viscosity and only wanted to know if this had harmful additives being an oil designed for a diesel engine. Heck he has lowered viscosity from the 20w-50 that he was using. Either way I doubt his choice of oil is harming anything be it from viscosity or additives.

BTW I was just busting your chops about the posts comment Quattro. All in fun.

Nope, no 0W-30's or 5w30's in the states. At least, not that I know of. If I'm wrong feel free to correct me. I've been interested in Delo's 0w30 for some time, and it would be exciting news to hear of a distributor in the U.S.

Rotella T 15w40 is fantastic oil!!! I dont know if Id use it in a car haha but I use the stuff in both my motorcycles when I do my own changes. They run superb on that flavor.

I think 20w50 is best for harleys with the high tolerances.
15W40 is for diesel engines 400-800 cubic inches

Nascar engines qualify with 0w20 and race with 5w20

I do understand where some people think the heavier the oil the better its protecting the engine but its actually the opposite.. lighter oils circulate better and lubricate the tight clearances of modern engines.

I agree. Even with a modest performance engine upgrade 20W50 is not the optimal choice of grade IMO for a 4.6 Modular. Unless there is a mechanical issue the OP is attempting to mask.

OP how many miles do you have on your 4.6? Any oil consumption? Any unresolved mechanical issues? Or are you making the assumption to use a thicker grade because of mileage?

No always true. All depends on the builders clearances and specs.

If there are no mechanical issues, big leaks, or oil burning with the engine I'd suggest trying out the M1 5w30 HM. My 2002 GT has the 4.6. I run it hard and always have. This oil has been working really well.
