I've just found a local place to me who sell Shell Rimula R6M 10W-40 at an ok price.

It's a real beast of an oil , Full syn with 1400ppm of Zinc/Phos and over 4000ppm of Calcium, 1.9% SAPS and 15.9 TBN

Specs :

ACEA: E7, E4
API: CF
Cummins: CES 20072
Deutz : DQC IV-05
IVECO T3 E4 (1)
MAN: M3277
MB Approval: 228.5
MACK: EO-M Plus
MTU: Category 3
Renault trucks: RXD
Scania: LDF-2
Volvo: VDS-3

My question is, what type of base stock does it most likely use? it is a full synthetic oil according to Shell.

With that much TBN, it must be designed to run on ultra-high Sulfur fuel. Then the ZDDP would have to be boosted to balance the high DI content.

I have a crazy idea to use this in my 1988 Ford Escort.

Before i got it it was neglected and has some light sludge, coking on valve springs, rocker arms etc, and it looks like this oil could be pretty good at cleaning.
It's also a hydraulic flat tappet engine with quite stiff valve sprigs. so the 1400ppm of Zinc would not be bad.
