Just wondering if anyone happens to have any information on this oil, be it in 15W-40 or 20W-50 flavor.

A search for a VOA yields the following for 15W-40 from a Russian plant:

Boron: 175
Calcium: 1558
Magnesium: 410
Molybdenum: 55
Phosphorus: 1034
Zinc: 1134

Zinc and phosphorus levels look good, but although there's some boron, a hint of moly and magnesium, the calcium content seems a bit too low. TBN appears to be 10.1 on Shell's data sheet, although the VOA shows 7.3.

Specific information, other than the Spec sheet no...

Opinion yes: I use it in my Pajero as below and it was better than the Diesel Magnatec the dealership put in, fleet/owner drivers (truck) swore by it. Better in my case as far as it kept it's colour longer and did't vary as much on the dipstick over the factory OCI of 15,000km.

Personally I felt that 7,500 - 10,000km on either oil was optimum both were toasted @ 12,500 (Mine is @ severe service use, consistently) IMHO.

Looks pretty normal for a CJ-4 or CK-4 low ash heavy duty diesel engine oil (sulphated ash below 1.0%). Calcium (detergent) being low is offset by the presence of Magnesium detergent in this formulation.

I have used it in both of my cars and they liked it, was going to buy some more soon.
it may be discontinued though, as some places online list it as out of stock!
The place i usually buy my oil has 3 5L bottles left, i think i'm going to buy them all.

Thanks for the input!

I'm running Motorcraft Super Duty 15W-40, a CJ-4 rated HDEO, in my petrol Pajero (no emissions equipment) and am looking at something with a higher phosphorus and zinc content, preferably with a lower NOACK.

The 20W-50 variant of Rimula R4 X caught my attention as a CI-4 rated oil, which as a pre-DPF specification, I would have expected a higher phosphorus content and a higher TBN. Unless the Turkish formulation available locally is vastly different compared to the Russian formulation above, it doesn't look like it's worth the switch.

Many thanks for the input. This is actually CI-4 rated with a sulfated ash content of 1.45% according to the spec sheet, which is why it came as a bit of a surprise!

Another VOA i've seen somehwere showed 1250ppm Zinc, but i am surprised about the 55ppm of Moly.

Would you happen to have a link to that VOA, or could you post it here?

Thanks anyway! Formulation probably changed since then.

I doubt it's changed, it's probably got a "average" concentration of 1200ppm or so, a little variation is not uncommon depending on the batch you test.
The 2013 specs seem identical to the current.

According to Shell UK,the product has not changed, just the name changed from Rimula RT4X to Rimula R4X,same product.TBN is 10.5.I use it in my European Ford Escort,1985 1.6 OHC/CVH Engine, thanks for the recommendation by FordCapriDriver earlier in the year.

I am going to go back to R4X in my Escort too, it doesn't like the 10w40 Semi-syn it has in it right now, it gets a slight tick when at hot idle, might mix it with 1L of Helix HX3 20W-50 to bring it to about 16Cst @ 100C too.

It seems Rimula R4X is not discontinued like i thought,
( Hallelujah )
Going to keep using it in my Escort for a third oil change with a bigger oil filter as it seems to do a good job cleaning.

Yeah, it just seems that whenever the place where i buy it has it in stock somebody comes and buys all the 5L jugs and then they only have the 20L buckets left haha
