Shell oil - opinions?

So my wife's Elantra got an o/c yesterday at the dealer.

It gets an o/c (now out of warranty at 145k miles with no mechanical problems at all) about every 4,000 - 5,000 miles at the dealer with OEM Hyundai filter.

out of curiosity, I asked them what oil they use:
It's Shell conventional 10w30.

I don't know much about this oil...
is it good? ok? bad?

The car runs fine...I am just curious to know if this is an ok oil for this car, which is mostly driven at speeds btw 55-75 mph on most trips, and driven in a semi-enthusiastic manner at times.

Shell is good stuff! Have confidence in it. Recently it returned a very good used oil report in somebody's car.

So long as it meets the various specifications (e.g. API SM, ILSAC GF-4, etc.), it'll do as well as any other modern oil in ordinary use.

Obviously, you'd want to look into a different oil if you were doing racing, or something rather hard on the car, but normal driving isn't a problem.

I use it in my RX8 all the time.

And Shell Rotella is some of the best stuff ever if you ever want an overall solid oil.

Looks like the oil is doing good for you and there is no reason to change a thing. From what I understand Shell oil is some of the best out there.

i use SOPUS a lot and i think they are very good..shell, pennzoil and quaker state

Others as well Chevron to name a few. Keep your OCI in it's range since normal conditions are being mentioned. Nothing wrong with Shell Formula PCMO.

Personally with no cold starts 65F-90F I use the Delo400 10w30 or the SAE 30wt if didn't use synthetic oil. Price wise I can pick it up at a distributor for $2 more on an oil change versus PCMO. The Delo400 can handle a lot more over OTC PCMO and keep the engine CLEAN long term. Well worth it in my opinion BUT could be overkill but what the heck for stop and go traffic.

As mentioned Shell has some great oils, they make Shell oils, Quaker State, and Pennzoil, all of which will serve their user well.

I personally prefer a 5w30, but I don't know what your manual states, and I don't know how cold winters get in your area.

So keep doing what you're doing, I don't see any oil related reason why you couldn't get another 145k miles out of it

I'm simply amazed that someone with over 4,000 posts and 6+ years on this site can't find any information about Shell motor oil here, or doesn't already know anything about it...

Like the others have said Shell makes quality oil so you don't have to worry about inferior products.

I admit Shell conventional oil I've never tried BUT the Quaker State brand "Q" synthetic is nothing less than excellent which Shell owns.

Thanks for all the useful comments, guys. I am reassured now.
Like I said, one hears a lot about the other oils in the shell/qs family, but i didn't see a lot of individual posts on SHell itself - a search brought up only 1 or 2 and one of them was on the Helix Ultra, so I Just wanted to make sure the Shell dino also has a good rep.

I use alot of the Motomaster Formula 1 oils made by Shell and sold by Canadian Tire. The dino I use has some sort of synthetic additive they call Wearguard...no idea what it is, but for $10 a jug on sale it works well in one of our leased vehicles.
I also use the synthetic version in several other vehicles with good results, also hard to beat when it goes on sale for $15 a jug. Shell makes good oils.

Got a really good UOA at 8k on the CT version of this oil.
