I have the ability to purchase some Shell Helix Ultra 5w40 for about the same price as Mobil 1. So, my question is....is it worth purchasing. I am going to put it in my VR6 Jetta if I do. I thought someone once said that Pennzoil Platinum Euro 5w40 was the same as Helix Ultra, but on the spec sheets on www.shell.com they are different. So, any suggestions?

If you don't mind, where can you get it for the same price as Mobil 1. Is this in quarts, liters, or 55 gallon drum. If you can get it for that price buy it, it will work great in your VR6. The Pennzoil European 5W40 is close to the Helix Ultra but not exact. They do use the same base stocks.

An oil distribution company that is close to me has some. It is close to Mobil 1, but more expensive, not by much. About $7.00 a liter. Yes, it is in liters. I was just curious if it would be worth it in my VR6, or would just Euro Pennzoil Platinum be pretty much the same. I have some of that already. Maybe I will UOA both of them and see.

IIRC the Ferrari juice is 10W60, considerably more exotic than 5W40.

The 10w60 only comes in the Enzo. All other models get the 5w40 as factory and service fill.

Shell Helix Ultra 5w-40 is one of the cheapest Group 3 synthetic available here in australia.

Too true, SHU is considered the cheapest synthetic you can buy here. M1 is almost double the price (in anything but the 5W50), Redline etc triple!

I'd be taking M1 over SHU if they were the same price...
