He probably freed up 40GB after he deleted all the system restore points post-SP2 installation.

Just reinstalled SP2 on the vista machine that it crashed the last time I installed it and it's fine now... Must have been something on my system is didn't like. This system is much faster with SP2 and although I have regained some HDD space, I haven't seen the numbers everyone else is posting.
