Sometimes reasonable people get irrational ideas and just need someone to say it isn't so.

One of our neighbours (who didn't like the people next door) thought the neighbours were pulling the rocky ground cover down from around her house. I looked at it and said the same thing was happening at my house and it would be such heavy work that no-one could be doing it on the sly. Case closed.

Someone needs to tell this customer that there is no evidence of bolts or fittings being tampered with - and for half ways reasonable people that should be the end of it.

Some people develop fixed delusions and that's a different problem that needs a different solution.

I once sold a antenna system when I had my business. A customer claimed her CIA husband who was killed in the line of duty, told her to get rid of cable because you could be seen by the CIA . She was dead serious to the tune of $900 (in 1990) for a TOTL TV antenna system. Her house was 3 story and my installer wanted $400 to do the job. She said no problem.

$140 seems reasonable for addressing this kind of concern. :)
I’d have quoted the job as a used vehicle inspection. 1.5 hours labor.

They can keep the inspection sheet with everything found and all the measurements. If we see something that’s been tampered with we’ll make notes, show you if you’re still here waiting or email pictures if you’re not.

I looked at a car for an individual I had gone to grade school with who told me that someone had taken a chainsaw to the rear bumper cover. Well, it was broken but it was not from a chainsaw - more likely it cracked from old age, sun exposure, or she backed into something when it was freezing cold and it simply cracked. Also she noted other interior damage in the passenger compartment that she just knew was due to somebody taking an axe to everything. Well, it looked more like heavy wear and tear to me.

Fortunately, she left town shortly thereafter.
