This thread is a classic example showing most people do not know how to do a proper oil filter warranty claim.

First thing is to establish what the Goodyear service center policy is on such things. Advice on not letting Goodyear even have the filter is a non- starter out the gate as Goodyear will just tell you to take it to civil court as they have the right to take possession for their own internal examination.

Secondly, any restitution is on Goodyear to make right and it will be up to Goodyear to follow up with the filter supplier and not the vehicle owner.

Lastly, the chain of custody of this filter is suspect and leaves plenty of room for any party either Goodyear and/or the filter maker to put up resistance. Once the OP found out from the dealer their findings, he should gotten a hold of the Goodyear shop and followed their claim policy. Unfortunately, there is some leaps of faith in letting the Goodyear handle the investigation and claim or the alternative is legal costs and time delays that will out weigh the costs of the repairs.
