Point taken. Doubtful anyone regularly reading this board would make regular practice of it.
As this is a jobber filter though, I think the bigger point is that customers much like the owner of topic'd Elantra using some quick lubes or indie shops could, unbeknownst to them, end up with a downsized from spec oil filter. In this case it's downsized two sizes.
This is a case where the Hyundai or Kia dealer could make quite an impressive point imo by just showing the customer the difference between the SC filter used here and the H/K oem filter.
As for whether it has a significant effect on engine longevity is another discussion. I'll say probably not. It is interesting imo though, that using an oversize filter in place of spec is oft debated and discussed. Meanwhile some shops routinely downsize the same filter applications.
And I've got nothing against quick lubes or indies, just pointing out a practice that can occur at 'some' shops. My .02
