Folks, I recently ran my 95 Corolla about 800 miles over it's 5k OCI, and in the meantime I added a quart of RotellaT 10W-30. Am I risking serious engine damage? My friend (Dale Gribble) said I should post on here to get it checked out.

Time to change your oil if the rest is conventional but your new oil did no harm and is better with it than being short.

Are you kidding? No way would that cause engine damage. You can run those engines dry and it won't burn up. They just don't die!! In our '88 Toyota Corolla I've dumped everything from 20w-50 "junk brand" motor oil to to synthetic. I use Fram filters for it and don't change the oil very often. Sometimes I'd pull out the dipstick and it would be bone dry, although there was oil pressure so there must've been some oil in there. Oh, also I abused it during my teenage years (burnouts, clutch dropping, bottoming out shocks, etc.). The thing still runs today strong as heck with 250k miles on the clock (knock on wood).

At least you didn't go 14k+ like my friend did.

There's nothing to worry about, seriously.

No problem whatsoever. Modern oils are not even close to being spent on a 5K mile oil change -- particularly on a little 4 cylinder normally aspirated engine.

If you kept the level in the safe zone, it should be fine. I think Toyota actually specified 7500 intervals. I know GM does in the Geo Prizm (same car, Chevy badge instead of Toyota)

Not a big crankcase capacity, 3L, so if you are a quart down, that's about 30% of the oil. So I add pints when the dipstick is midway between full and add, FWIW.

A ringing endorsement for FRAM yet still?! I got their Extended Guard line on mine right now. This thread reminded me that I might be a few ounces low..time to fill up. The operative word being ounces and not half quart, full quart etc. The OP may or may not have engine damage but what about engine wear or more of it?

One reason why I don't think I got much of a response to my question of could 'this incident' be potentially termed as 'engine wear' and not ncessarily 'damage is because everyone agree then omnisciently that engine wear *could be* in essense the same or similar thing to uneven or a 'spike' in engine wear or engine damage? If not, could it be simply termd as an 'inordinate spike in wear' or some shyte like this? say 'wear to an exponential leve' and perhaps not engine damage? to wear it could be termed as damage or the lines of engine wear and damage have been blurred?!
