Today Show, 7:33 am 2 May 2007.
A babbler known as.... what is it? Chuck Mauer? Matt Mauer? The unit is in Bhutan sending various reports about various aspects of the people in Bhutan, what it's like living there, etc.
Of course, Coot has mostly seen warm fuzzy stuff and very little in-depth real knowlesge is conveyed. As is typical, the TV viewer is being entertained, not educated.
Mauer mentions how TV is a relatively new contraption in Bhutan and how the Bhutanese have learned about America and Americans via television.
Huh?
Please.... Pretty please..... Coot sincerely truly hopes that those Bhutanese are not forming impressions of the USA and its residents by the frilly froth that comprises the majority of junk spewed across the airwaves.
Thinking back to that research done in Africa.... when remote villages were given battery-powered TVs (get the kid to crank the generator while others watch) and the researchers discovered that those folks thought most Americans lived the opulent lifestyle of the millionaires portrayed on the prime-time soap opera Dallas.
Oh, GREAT!!!!!! our droid is showing the "Bhutanese on the street" pictures of TV stars and asking if they recognize them. Many recognize the cast of the sit-com or whatever it was "Friends."
Yeah, that show really portrays the typical American, right? Other "stars" are shown and sit-com drivel actors are recognized by many.
What kind of view are those foreign folks gonna' formulate about real Americans by viewing TV garbage?
With so much foolish, lame, aimed-at-the-lowest-common-denominator buffons, froth and swill spewed out by America's entertainment industry being aired overseas.......
America is its own worst enemy!!!!!!
Maybe those foreign folks need to observe the Coot in his shanty, to negate the belief that all Americans live those bizarre lifestyles, those generally wealthy modes of living the average American never attains!!!!!
Heck, even the Roseanne sit-com based upon blue collar family would be a better representation than Friends, 90210, and those other lame outputs of a, to the Coot, lame "entertainment" industry.
Heck, maybe Ziggy from Roseanne would be the best ambassador to represent the USA!!!!!!!!
Rant over.
