Sell the bike itch ??

so give me your thoughts, for some of us its the first bike, others whatevers in the garage now.. but we all have our favorite motorcycle.. Mines the one listed below (the Yamaha) its got alot of custom parts and work done and for the first 3-4 years of ownership it was pampered like a baby.. for a 6.5 year old bike its fairly close to mint.

Well time marches on and 6.5 years later this bike spends 99.9 % of its time in the garage, under a cover & up on its stands..

At 36 its not exactly the most comfortable bike anymore either.. I ride the little 250 ninja almost always.. but when i do get the Yamaha out.. ohh-boy.. its always a thrill..

so youv been in my shoes before ? should i unload it while its still worth a little money ? should i keep it and leave it under the tarp for when i get the itch to go real fast ? Its paid off, has been for many years.

My only thought is the $ might make a good down on a medium size pontoon..

I`m actually looking to buy another bike. I want a mid-late 80s Honda XL 250 or bigger.

It sounds as you have other interests that could be funded by selling, so the question is, would you enjoy the pontoon as much as the bike?

considering i have a lake in my front yard.. probably.

the motorcycle is a social outlet, i have my bike buddys and up untill recently we would do out of state travel with the bikes ect.. unfortunately a girl got mixed into some traditional "guy only" trips activitys and some feelings got hurt.. bla,bla,bla.. that being said what was once a 10 year strong small tight knit group of bike riders is slowly drifting..

now dont get me wrong, i love going fast.. ive been doing the rocket thing for 10 years and love "go-fast bikes" but im stuck asking myself if its worth keeping the bike in the garage anymore..

Park it in a buddy's garage for a few weeks...one that doesn't ride...if you wake up in the middle of the night with a strong urge to go get it...keep it..if you dream of pontoons and fishing and cold root beer and bikinis or whatever, sell the durn thing!

It probably feels good to have the bike in the garage if you feel like riding it but, sounds like it doesn't happen too often. I don't think it's going up in value the longer it sits either. Might be time to unload it and check out the pontoon seen. You still have the Ninja which is still having a bike to hit the road when you feel like it.

I know 2 people with bikes that just sit in the garage with the covers on them. I'm always like, get rid of it if you don't use it. They still have insurance on them and an up to date registration but it's money down the drain if they're not actually riding them.

When you get down to it, the answer is plain to see.

I know, I have been there. Time is not kind to bikes that aren't ridden on a regular basis.

Maybe things are different up here in Colorado since we're dry for the most part, but I rarely sell anything. I have these among others:
1974 Kawasaki H2, 1000 miles ridden in the 33yrs I've had it.
1978 Kawasaki KZ650 1000 miles since new
1979 Kawasaki KZ1000 250 miles since retired in 1991
1993 Ford van with 13,000 miles
1997 F350 Powerstoke diesel driven 1000 miles last 4 years
I don't sell, I just accumulate - All my motorcycles are worth a lot more than they were new and I never have any troubles, just install a battery, add gas and ride a few miles every 3 or 4 years. I've sat long as 10yrs and still never had any problems.

i rode the R1 to work today... man.. 7 years later and i can still say this thing is just stupid fast, i have a bit of a coolant leak on my little ninja so its got a few parts on the garage floor at the moment.. and didnt wanna blow $ on gas in my truck.. so out came the R1.. goosebumps in first gear.. scary.
