Not trying to sell it here....there are several national/regional (soCal) sales outlets such as BAt and others, looking for advice on best way to sell it. Its a relatively rare car with 6-speed, mostly original, never raced, crashed, or otherwise abused.

Gotta say you seem full of it. Honesty works better than playing.

Are you looking for opinions on the best way to sell a nice but niche, reasonably valuable collector car?

Bring a Trailer and Cars & Bids are two auction sites that work, but the process is a bit of work to do right; picture portfolio, etc. Read their unwind policies and processes carefully. Sell through forum specific forums, BMWCCA ads, etc. I researched all of the above and recently decide to consign a niche vehicle through a specialist dealer.

Good luck.

Not trying to be a douche but the premise of that article seems flawed.
- 290HP isn't 90% of 400HP; you do not in fact get 90% of the performance, you get 72% of the performance.
- The M62 had timing chain issues due to a single row/roller chain, while the S62 was far less likely due to the heavier duty double roller chain
- Both cars are equally liable to experience typical E39 issues like the HVAC resistor module failing, the cup holders breaking, the 2-piece driveshaft needing replacement, the pixels going out in the cluster (ribbon cable needing replacement), headlight auto levellers packing it in...etc.
- S62 had higher quality VANOS seals (viton vs butyl) so less prone to VANOS issues

I'm sure I could come up with more. Point being, you aren't getting the experience they are selling there.

I always laugh when I see the "540 is 90% of the M5". Just because it is an E39 with a V8 doesn't mean it is most of the performance of an M5. That's like saying an E46 330i is most of the performance of an E46 M3. All are great cars, but that is a pretty silly comparison.

The e39 540i MT is a great car. Agree it isn’t an M car, and in some regards that’s actually better. Much of the good (MT, plenty of power, etc), less of the niche.

So, OP, are you selling it? How much do you think it’s worth? What’s your assessment of your local market?

Are you trying to determine what site or sales storefront gets the best price?

It isn’t M5. BUT, if you cannot sell that car for GOOD money, either it is junk or you didn’t try. That car should sell in couple of hours if it is in good condition! Regardless where you selling.
