Where would you go to learn self defense/hand to hand fighting skills. Now I am not a young man anymore. 67 is older than I used to be, but, I aint dead yet>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

You can start with an Adult Ed program geared toward self defense. They're offered in Schools, Community Centers, etc. See if you like it, or grab the phone book and look for Martial Arts schools in your area. Most places will let you watch a class, and then take one for free. MMA, Krav Maga and Jiu Jitsu, to name a few are very effective for self defense.

I will look up those names too, thinks

This kind of stuff doesn't look real, but, here you go.

Now, to get BRUTAL about it: Krav maga. "Attack the attack"

*Hint: Most choreographed movie sequences are variations on Krav Maga.

The problem with carrying a gun is that one day you might be tempted to use it. What happens is it's never a last resort but usually a first reaction. I saw way too much of that in my younger days.

99% of the time a quick jab to the nose of anyone will stun them enough to give you the upper hand. It is really easy after that. I have done it twice on guys quite a bit bigger than me....won easily both times.

I took Kempo for a few years... geared towards self defense... I always wanted to learned the akeedo techniques... (spelling way off there!!) these were grabs and holds that were amazing... was not offered by me... My instructor knew alot of it and I found they had the best real world applications...
now I'm just a fat tired mailman...

I have a Mastiff dog. I think that would be mouth to hand biting, not fighting.

I really have no need to go into bad areas.

You're talking Aikido.

I go about my business and live my life, and no one gives me a second look. It's just not something that concerns me.

+1, no bars, no drugs, no being in bad areas at 3:00 AM.

You go swimming every day for 20 years and then one day you bump into a shark. Sometimes trouble comes to you uninvited. But I do the same. I stay out of places where trouble hangs.
