Seeing more VW Micro Busses

I wonder if they could have went the Honda Ridgeline route as it's a unibody. Maybe built a usa truck for our market? With my brief sales and lot guy for VW. the customers were fanatics. Many were multi-generation VW owners. Their parents had vw's, they drove vw's, their kid wasn't going to drive anything but a vw.
Sure, no reason they couldn't make a atlas MQB platform "truck" just like Honda did with the Pilot or Ford the escape. But the current frame based VW truck isn't compatible with the current production line. I have no idea if that line could be converted or if it would be a full retrofit, but either way they couldn't make both at once.

I am really surprised more haven't chased that plan for a SUV / pickup body. Possibly there isn't as much demand as we all think?

VW Sales Manager here. I think they are super cool, but like others have mentioned, they are priced out of the market, and the EV aspect is the right move, but the range is quite low by modern standards, so the idea of travelling too far off the grid is not realistic. Before we leased an ID4 for my wife at the end of September, I priced out a low trim (RWD base trim) on a lease with my employee pricing (13% off MSRP) and (at the time) $10K in rebates, and a 3-year lease was still almost $800. We leased her top trim ID4 for a hair over $300. The choice was easy.

There has been zero interest in it at our location for months now. I imagine they do better on the West Coast, where an affluent buyer can buy one to feel 50% nostalgic and 50% environmentally friendly.

I would have at least considered one or possibly bought one if it was a hybrid. We bought a new Sienna instead.

My wife hates driving appliances that everyone else has, but the range is too poor for us to consider. It would barely make it to the Worlds Largest Truck stop from my house, which is always our bladder stop on our way to see family in IL.

Awesome van, just impractical for us.

Range is key Most use cases don't require that much range on a daily basis, but in my experience 300 mile range is a good rule of thumb.
Remember, you don't charge to 100% and you don't drive down to zero. So 300 miles is a lot closer to 220.

The ID BUZZ 230 mile range is pretty weak, well under 200, more like 160. I don't think you will be happy with it...

Regardless, if an EV fits your use case, you just might love one. I sure do.

VW has apparently cancelled US imports of the magic bus for 2026.
Really too bad, but the model, while pretty, didn't offer a very compelling range to cost ratio.

The return of a great vehicle. Different drivetrain, but same in so many ways. People loved them in the old days. Let's see what happens with these.View attachment 301805
VW is not bringing them stateside for the 2026 Model year. Maybe in 2027. The USA doesn't even get the nifty fold down tables due to "certification " or whatnot. It needs about 450 miles of range if it's going to be a long range vehicle or cargo van
