The return of a great vehicle. Different drivetrain, but same in so many ways. People loved them in the old days. Let's see what happens with these.

On the way to the landfill this past Saturday I saw an original bus in orange with the popup camper. The old fella had a long flowing white beard, spat out what looked like dip onto the street corner. I passed him by with my trailer full of trash.

If only this new version had a gas engine, then it might actually sell. At 60k now, its rich people's transportation and does not fit the spirit of VW.

The same in many ways? Pretty much 1 way, the paint. They are over priced (not a vehicle for all people), limited range, overly complex, not utilitarian at all, not serviceable by the owner......
Expensive - yes. Range is like 230 miles - a bit anemic but a low trim Model 3 is only 270 so for a vehicle that size its not awful I don't think.

Are they any less serviceable than any other EV?

Saw my first one on the road the other day, Candy White over Pomelo Yellow 4 Motion 1st Edition. A lady was using it for package delivery when I stopped her and asked about how she liked it. She pulled right over into my driveway and opened it all up. She was gushing about how roomy it was, rode super smooth, quiet, and easy to drive. Had to agree, it had a ton of room inside. And she had the captains chair option, which were folded down and it looked like you could get a stack of plywood sheets back there. Dune interior color was also pretty nice, but can imagine it would get dingy after a while. The coolest was the electrochromic panorama sunroof. It was bright sunlight outside and it was basically opaque. She took a big package out and placed it on top of the sunroof, you could watch it starting to get more transparent. Pretty neat. She said that it mostly gets charged at home on a standard 120V Level 1 cable., but is in the process of having a 240V Level 2 plug/cable set-up installed for a bit faster charging. Said that it has been on a couple roadtrips and range is on the low side around 220-235 (indicated) miles for a full charge. Hasn't charged any faster than 200kW where she said it generally took 30-45 minutes to get a >80% charge on an Electrify America charger. She told me the learning curve has been pretty easy and is happy with it. $65K was what she siad it cost her when bought after the initial "buzz" had worn off. I do wish they offered it in a gas version too. Either way, won't be getting one.

I've seen a few of them. They're cute! it's the kind of car that makes you smile.

Unfortunately, the range and charging aren't class-leading. For a fairly expensive family-oriented vehicle that you might want to have as the largest vehicle in your household and presumably take on trips, that's a bummer.

If you compare an ID.Buzz and an EV9 with the larger battery, they're about the same price... and the EV9 has much better range and charging speed.
