No need to.

Everytime I ride in my friend's '69 Chevelle Malibu, I am forced to ride sans-a-shoulder belt. It has them, but they have never been taken down out of the original factory clips along the edge of the roof and he doesn't want them ever taken down.

I hate it. I feel like I'm going to slam into the dash or window all the time. Like the lap belt does not adequately support me. I don't slam all rag-doll like into things but my mind keeps telling me I'm not secure.

So I concede that point.

I was in an accident about 2 years ago. WE hit a Saturn car in a old Camry with no air bags. We T boned it at about 45 mph. We both had our seat belts on. It rang my bell pretty good and I had a sore foot but that was it. I am convinced that I would have had serious injuries or be dead with out the belt. I know 45 does not sound fast and I guess its not until you hit something.

I wont get into anything without them on and if you ride with me you will wear them or get out. I did not wear them as a young man I admit but that was really before we knew how much they helped plus I was just stupid about things like this in my youth. Please everybody buckle up!

A few years ago, I had a lady turn in front of me and I smashed into the side of her Expedition..I was probably going about 40 when I hit her..hard to say as I did have a moment to hit the brakes. The worst injury I had was a sprained/sore arm from the air-bag pushing it out of the way (trying to manuver puts your arms in funny places).

Had I not been wearing my seatbelt though, my head would have been MUCH closer to that air-bag..and my neck may not have been to fond of that whipping. Ever since I bought my first car with airbags, I've always worn my belts. My wife does and so do the kids..just how it is. I'm glad I did.

You get hit hard enough, it won't matter. But chances are, they will save your [censored]!!

Very true!As a former EMT myself i have been to more than one accident where a seatbelt has been the diffrence between going home and not.My 22 year old son was killed in an accident in 08 when a man involved in a confrintation with his girlfriend pulled out of his driveway into his path,he was very lax about wearing his seatbelt,he would most likely be here today had he have worn it that afternoon!TIG1 also posted in this thread about a low speed crash he was witness to,i have been to low speed accidents where occupants have died all depends on where the impact occurs on the body, point is wear your seatbelt even if your just going a block to the quicke mart for a soda!

Seatbelt sure save lives, probably saved mine, or at least prevented serious injury, over 4 years ago when I girl in a Civic spun out 180 degrees in front of me on black ice. I hit her head on, it was a 4 lane highway with no divider and when the cop arrived he thought that we were going the opposite directions and one of us crossed the yellow line. It took me like 10 minutes to explain exactly what happened so that his report would be accurate. To this day I have no clue how she managed that, as the road was straight.

The girl was shaken up pretty bad, but she was OK and no ambulance was needed. I always make sure the seatbelt is tight around my clothes and seat further from the steering wheel, so I never even hit the airbag and came out without a scratch.

Um, no need to experiement. NH does not require seat belts and I do not wear them. My choice. I have been in accidents as well and never been hurt. Could I be? Sure no doubt. I could be hurt badly wearing one too. Seat belts should be a personal choice and not something mandated by law. It is ridiculous.

To the peeple saying I know EMT's who say they have never taken a dead body from a seat belt. I can only say to that those EMT's haven't been involved in many serious accidents. Seat belts can only do so much.

Actually, my older Sister is an accident magnet. She has been hit so many times it is not funny. I won't even let her drive my vehicles she is such bad luck in a car. She is always hurt( neck, shoulder, back )by the seat belt too. Nothing serious enough where you could say they saved her life either. Walk away accidents( I have been in one and I was fine while she had a bad neck )that she gets hurt by the seat belt.

I have no problem with people chosing to wear them. Just don't preach to me that I need to nor force me to wear one.

Most of the MVA patients in our trauma-burn ICU were unrestrained.
The amount of force generated in even a slow crash is staggering, and there is no way a person can keep themselves from being tossed around like a rag doll.

Not only should you buckle up, but you should make sure the belt is properly adjusted (run it across the hips or lower abdomen, not running across your neck, keep it snug, etc).
My 5'11" wife requires the belt positioned completely different than me. Her CR-V has a neat seatbelt height adjuster which allows this.
