Sears... again....

Was shopping online on sears looking for some tool deals or whatever.

They had a big banner ad about "get free pickup in store".

Found something on clearance, so awesomely priced that I had to put it in my shopping cart to see the price. Ok, I'll play along.

Then I had to put in all my personal information, shipping address, email etc to buy the thing.

Well apparently they are out of stock at my local store, as I looked for a link to buy it there, and could not find it. So I would have to pay for shipping.

Now the kicker: I get an email from sears:

You bet I had trouble checking out! I had trouble getting a price! I had trouble getting free ship to store, you even offer it in this email, but I can't get it for this product. This level of obfuscation is the electronic equivalent of, well, a brick and mortar sears!

I could get free shipping with something called ShipVantage, which is 80 bucks a year, or more than Amazon Prime. Except Amazon Prime has free streaming movies and other benefits.

I looked at their tool section tonight at least 3/4 is made in china.. as was their winter jacket section.

I have to say that in this day and age, any management that allow a website like that to represent such a large retailer, is clearly Incompetent.

"hey our e-shopping is a disaster, people are abandoning their carts left and right"

"so can we have a robot send out an email, nagging them to come back?"

"that must be it, they're old people and they forget stuff easily. Let's put the "trouble at checkout" in really huge letters to get their attention."

"ok, lets use the color blue on the email, this will fix all our problems"

"yeah, that's something we learned from the k-mart merger, they use blue lights on all sorts of stuff and it seems to be working for them"

It probably stems from the bailout my state just gave them. They don't need sales, our governor just keeps giving them money.

I work for Sears, I will have to find another job in 3 weeks or I'm unemployed. The job market sucks down here. I have been looking for over a month and a half.. I'm in school as well.. I'm beyond stressed right now.

I hear your frustration with Sears, but I should mention they aren't the only one that does this sort of thing (the email asking if you had problems with your cart). I've had other companies email me with the same thing - Crutchfield being one of them.

Where do you see the UPS driver?

I see a box on a hand truck which makes sense for some things - for example my daughter just bought an exercise bike from them and of course it was in a pretty big box. They had two young men load it into the trunk of my car. It took about 5 minutes from the time we walked through the door until I was driving away.

I have thought about that. I have always had job since I was 14. I think it would be considerably harder to get back into the job market once unemployed. Nobody want to risk you. Right? I have six classes to go, then it's off to grad school for PT.

I won't shop at Sears or K-Mart anymore except in limited circumstances. K-Mart stores are falling apart, I haven't seen a nice one in fifteen years. Their prices are too high, too. Sears stores are cluttered, and the prices are way too high. Just one example, when I was looking for a new freezer for my parents they wanted almost $100 for delivery of the new one and haul away of the old one, when Home Depot, Lowes, and IIRC Menards had it for free. I do like Craftsman hand tools, they are pretty good quality and a good value.

Sears/Kmart have done and still do a lot of things wrong. I can't remember the last time I was in either store, and if they were to go out of business today I wouldn't miss them.

I have my doubts that their current business plan is viable for their long term existence.

Like the rest of the unknowing bull pie here, it WASN'T a "bailout" !!! The state negotiated future tax credits to keep the company headquarters in the state along with it 6600 jobs.

FYI, MANY states have done exactly the same to both KEEP and CREATE jobs !!!!

There is no doubt however, that the megalomaniac hedge fund manager Eddie Lampert knows absolutely SQUAT about retail and only believes in cost cutting which is destroying a one time
quality retailing instituation.

And for all the UNKNOWING critics.....I was taught that the penalty of a criticism is a better suggestion.

Any idiot can criticize, and that applies to much more than just Sears !!!!!

That error message is funny! It's a circular reference!

The Sears exec's decision making reminds me of a sexual act, also involving a circle.

I can't believe how bad these stores have become over the last 20 years. They are stuck in 1992.

However, Sears & Kmart do have things no other places have in stock, such as:
--Short sleeve suits
--Century 21 Blazers for the holidays
--Lime-Green Leisure Suits

+1, collect and go to school full time(if not) already.

School was the poorest time of my life yet such an incredible time at the same time both academically/socially.

There was a KMart here...it closed in their reorganization, no loss.

There is still a Sears...it's a dump, selection is lousy, no big and tall section anymore, high prices, and the less said about their auto shop the better. Haven't been there in 5 years.
