Search Function Won't Find "History"

I am nearly done setting up my new workplace desktop computer. While messing on my old Vista based computer, I learned that any search for files or folders located under the root directory with the word "History" will not be found.

Assume that a file or folder does exist in my data section, do a search for "The History of Man" and it comes up with no results. Search "The of Man" and it finds the file "The History of Man".

Our IT person is stumped. Any ideas? It's kind of bizarre.

Is there a way to re index the hard drive?

I, too, wondered if it was an indexing problem.

I did the search having checked the box that says "search unindexed areas also" with no luck.

I will look into the indexing idea more.

Have you tried creating another file with the word History within the name, and failed to find this file using the search too?

What if you search using a basic command line? Example:

Open a command prompt and change directory to some folder higher up from your file location, then issue this command line:

dir *History* /s

BearZ, I did try making new History files/folders and putting them in various locations with no success. It won't even find them on the desktop.

If I type histor in the search box, it finds all the files and folders with history in their names.

On your second suggestion, are you talking about actually going into the cmd page (Windows DOS)? I tried that just now with no success, but will play around a bit more.

Yes, I was referring to the command prompt.

I wonder if that 'y' character has some accent on it, although I'd expect that to be visible. What if you create a new file with 'history' within its name so you know it's a clean file name?

That's all I can think of at this time.
