SDF42->eao41,43

Question for the Volvo crowd. Amsoil's previous SDF42 filter supported multiple Volvo models as well as other brands. When this was replaced by the ea series there are now two filters being used for the pre-99 Volvos- eao41 & eao43

Does anyone know why this is. These are the same part numbers for Volvo and Mann filters.

I am not sure. It seems curious to me.

The EaO41 is what I use on the 850. It has a higher by-pass pressure (16 PSID) vs the EaO 43 (8-11 PSID) The 41 is a bit shorter (3.4") than the 43 (3.8") The rest of the specs are the same.

I've also noticed this with the EAO 9/10 replacing the SDF-10 and the EAO 12/13 replacing the SDF-13. In these cases one filter is simply a longer version of the other and I suspect that's the case here. There may be clearance issues on specific applications with the longer filter. If Mann specs one filter for all these volvos, chances are it's the shorter of the two filters.

Somebody posted the bypass valve pressure specs and dimensions/gaskets of the EAO filter not long ago. So you can easily check this out.

Amsoil now has access to all the WIX filter tooling, so it makes sense to offer a more complete line of filters that match OEM specs....

TS you've yet to REALLY answer the question. Volvo only uses one part number for this application with the same bypass PSID. Why does Amsoil have two part numbers? And as you ignored in my original response, they have different bypass pressures......

AMSOIL follows WIX recommendations for auto and light truck applications. WIX provides the same recommendations for NAPA and Carquest. AMSOIL actually split three filters from the original SDF42:
