Same here. One cartoon really made me wonder about a spy in the company; my employer had two "labor/management participation" teams to try to improve things. They posted minutes after each meeting and one group's minutes were extremely sparse. On a survey I answered that Team "A" seemed to provide useful information but Team "B"'s only useful information was who was bringing the donuts to the next meeting. We used to joke, half-seriously, that Scott Adams had a spy cam in our engineering office. I worked with variations of most of the characters at one time or another.
If you haven't already, watch the whole podcast where he made what has been called a racist statement. In context, you might come to a different conclusion....However, I was appalled by the racist statement Adams released a few years ago. Surely he knew most or all newspapers would drop the strip, and perhaps he wanted to retire. I just couldn't understand why he would do ththat.
I'm convinced the guy in the office next to mine is the real-world Wally. I think he only missed being laid off in the last recession because he stayed invisible, hiding in his office watching videos, while other employees went about their day doing actual work, and unfortunately making themselves known to top management and thus fodder for layoffs.A short time later, I kid you not, there was a Dilbert cartoon with Wally going over some meeting minutes and the last frame was him asking who was bringing in the donuts for the next meeting.
Yes! In the strip, Adams used an in-house project code name that was being used where my close friend worked - a few days after the project was announced! We used to joke, half-seriously, that Scott Adams had a spy cam in our engineering office. Over the years I saved dozens of the strips, scanning paper copies in the '90s, and later downloading them from the 'net.
My all-time favourite may have been the one where his company built a geodesic-dome biosphere and populated it with used-car salesmen.
However, I was appalled by the racist statement Adams released a few years ago. Surely he knew most or all newspapers would drop the strip, and perhaps he wanted to retire. I just couldn't understand why he would do that.
the necktieA quiz for you diehards. What was the indication in his cartoon that Dilbert finally got laid?
Scott
I had only read synopses in legacy media at the time. I would bet you're correct, the summaries and selected excerpts probably distorted what he intended - but nuance doesn't sell newspapers. If you haven't already, watch the whole podcast where he made what has been called a racist statement. Take a look at his battle with cancer.I had only read synopses in legacy media at the time. I would bet you're correct, the summaries and selected excerpts probably distorted what he intended - but nuance doesn't sell newspapers.
Are you making your own conclusions, or do you have a reputable source?Take a look at his battle with cancer.
He basically signed his own death warrant because he fell into this conspiracy theory echo chamber. He suffered from cancer that was 100% curable. Once he realized what he got himself into and asked for, you know, real medical help, it had already metastasized.
So yeah, there is a contest to all his struggles, including his health.
Reputable sources about his case are very easy to find, including his own words. Are you making your own conclusions, or do you have a reputable source?
I've listened to his podcast on a daily basis and never picked up the information you indicated "in his own words". Which is why I asked for a source. If you aren't making it up, please provide one.Reputable sources about his case are very easy to find, including his own words.
