Has anyone used the Scott 1500 TP rolls before in their Frantz / Trasko / Motorguard BP filter? And if so what are the dimensions of the cardboard core?

I will look at the scott 1500 next time I go to the commissary and check out what size it is.

I set up the Motor Guard to make the seal inside the core of 1 5/8 core TP. It isn't so important for lube oil but the seal inside the core is critical for fuel or compressed air. I am going to copper internal parts. The seal will be at the bottom 2". I could make the seal all the way to the top but the TP wouldn't come off the tube. The oil pressure will weld the core to the copper tube. The tube will be 3 1/2" tall with a stub at the top. As the tee handle is tightened the core will grab the copper core and make the seal. Most of the TP these days is 1 5/8". All of the Scott paper is high quality. I remove the plastic core from the Motor Guard elements to make them 1 5/8". The filters come with the Motor Guard elements.

Ralph,

Would you have any idea as to what the ID of the core for this TP make is?

I've never seen this make of TP in stores anywhere. The density of this TP could be comparable with the TP rolls that Frantz makes IMHO. Before I order a package of 48 of these rolls for $60 I would like to ensure they are compatible with the Frantz filter. I'm sure others in the newsgroup would agree with me.

Okay will go tomorrow and let you know, sometimes they have different things on post.

I've also emailed the Kimberly-Clark tech support. I've let them know who we are and that this is a good PR opportunity. Let you know if they reply back.

Mark, the commissary only had Scott 1000, the tube size is 1 1/2. May be slightly smaller.

The single wrapped tube diameter was smaller than the one's sold in packs of 4 and 8.

4.8, if you know anyone who is active duty or reserve they can sponsor you into the commissary. This was changed a few years ago.

Great people to work with, the few and the proud, don't get spoiled by the prices. Good hunting.

I am setting up the Motor Guards to take the Scott 1000 sheet and other 1 5/8" core TP. I got the Scott in the 6 Roll pack. The Motor Guard has always been a one pass filter and depends on the seal inside the core. That is critical for fuel but a little bypassing thru the core area is no big deal for multipass filtration. The Motor Guard is better known as a compressed air filter or medical use where the product must be clean on the first pass. I don't think anything can beat TP for cleaning, not even the special Motor Guard element and it is rated at .01 micron. The plastic core has an advantage for fuel because it is leak proof and makes the fuel go all the way thru the element.
The 1 1/2" core is a carry over from the old days when all of the high quality paper was 1 1/2". The reason two ply was recommended was most one ply was usually very low quality and loose wound. It doesn't matter with the high quality one ply such as the Scott 1000 sheet. When I started using the Frantz and Motor Guard back 40 years ago the grocery stores were loaded with high quality 1 1/2" paper such as Safeway Truly Fine, Delsey, Scott, MD and others. The company I work for is purchasing the special Motor Guard elements from www.mcmaster.com 9841K93. I am pretty good at removing the plastic core so that they will fit the larger internal parts. The stock Motor Guards are set up for low temperature fluids and compressed air. They hae polypropylene internal parts. I have started using copper internal parts. It saves me a lot of machining.
I drop a stainless steel screen in the bottom of the ATF filter in case someone uses a fluffy roll and it restricts the filter outlet. The ATF filter has the restrictor in the filter. I have always used TP for coolant but am considering using the Motor Guard element with the core removed for coolant. It is like coffee filter paper in a roll. I can collapse the core and twist it out. I have some 7" sherars that I can reach in and cut the paper. The Motor Guard element is very strong and hard to tear. The 1 1/2"TP will be good for these old Frantz and Motor Guards that people are finding on eBay, etc. I traded for a 30 year old Motor Guard still in the box. The old Motor Guards were too restrictive for fuel. He needed it for filtering cooking oil for his VS diesel. The old M-100s compressed the element down against the inlet. Oil could force it's way thru. Fuel would put a black spot in the inlet. I would drop a coiled wire in the bottom. They eliminated that problem to get more air flow. I unroll the 1000 sheet down to 4 1/4" diameter. The tee handle will expand it.

Ralph,
I have purchased (4) MotorGuards from you, and they are awesome filters. (1) filters the diesel fuel on my tractor, (2) on my wife's van for oil & ATF, and (1) for my truck's oil. Would you consider making some 1.5" cores for sale? I seem to get stuck with more of the Scott 1000 1 1/2" rolls than the 1 5/8" ones.
