And yet another update, the Steiner, made in the USA with German glass is only $2,800, basically $1K less than the Vortex.

This has become far more of a PITA than I had anticipated.

Why? What do you think that extra $1K is going to buy you?

Absolutely nothing based on the reviews I've just read. Apparently the Steiner is a fantastic optic with German glass that is better than the Japanese glass in the Vortex. They also have the same warranty.

Researched paid off - $1000 is a good chunk of change to save.

Yeah, but now I've found a recent thread on one of the message boards about issues with it

ARG!!!

I think I'm just going to get the Vortex, I know it is good, I haven't read a single bad review about the bloody thing and it is in stock at the warehouse so I can have it in a day or two.

Good thing you found more info then. Maybe the issue has been fixed by the manufacturer by now - ?? Might pay off to call the company directly and get more info.

I dunno. This is like that time I bought the non-Michelin snow tires for the Charger and have regretted doing so constantly. I think I'll just ante up and buy the known-good.

That phrase is as beat to death on the Internet as "LOL". If both never appeared again anywhere, the world would be a better place. Both are stupid and meaningless.
