Gentlemen,
My wife is a short trip driver personified. Two mile trip to work, errands are worse,a mile here,a mile there, lots and lots of stops and starts a minimal amount of full heating of the oil and after reading other posts it will get run for at least a 1/2 hour on the highway once a week for sure. Now my question, would Schaeffer's be a good fit for her 3800 series II?? Right now I am running RP 5w30 @ 5-6k oci,but was thinking of switching to a Schaeffer's oil as they have a lot of moly and thought that would work better for the start/stop/short trips..Maybe a shorter oci,say 4k???Thoughts?????

Schaeffer's oil should be great for short trips! It has stout TBN and great add pack.

You are correct to worry, I know it's sorta buzz word like but short trips are the very worst.....my wife lives on them...the car may not live on them!

I'm going 5K max with the new Amsoil 5W-40 with THE WIFE.

That 3800 is easy on oil . Any of the synthetic blends will work great in it for that type driving . Most of them are 9-10 bucks per 5 quart jug .

I would lean toward the high TBN Mobil syn blend myself @ 2.08 per quart .

I think Schaeffer's is a great oil. The Blend outperformed Mobil 1 for me. It woujld fill the bill for you in any driving situation.

If you can't run 5k miles on 3.25 per quart oil switch to a 2 buck a quart oil that will .

If you call up Schaeffer's they will tell you that you can run 9000 miles (I believe on the blend). I think that if you dig hard enough on this board you might gind thet there are some long OCI's posted for the blend.

One final question before I take salesrep up on his offer in the specials section,do you think that schaeffers would handle the short trips better than the RP??????

From personal experience Schaeffers stay in grade and maintains it flashpoint for long OCI's. My last UOA with the Schaeffer's Blend was for a 8,200 mi OCI in my wifes 2002 Explorer, which seems to be hard on oils. It was fine and it could have gone longer. I'm going for 10,000 mi OCI this time. Also this time I'm using LC and FP. I didn't for the 8200 mi OCI. I seem to recall some of the Royal Purple used oil analysis seemed to show it thinning out a bit quickly. I think Patman and his wife's Honda was one. RP is a good oil also, so it's really a toss up. To me Schaeffers has proven itself so I stick with it.

Thanks Whimsey,I have about 13 gallons of RP but I am gonna try the Schaeffer's in the wife's car,as I've read when you get the "bug" you need to have a stash... I am also gonna check the used oil analysis threads and see if I can find yours, assuming you posted one...Thanks.

Sorry, I'm a dumb a** so I can't figure how to post a link. But the used oil analysis was posted on 9/14/04 in the used oil analysis section. If you want to PM me please feel free to.

I also run at least 6 "short" trips a day in my Honda Accord and I use Schaeffer's Supreme. Although it did well with 5K OCI there was significant improvement in the UOA after adding Lube Control. I use the same oil in my wife's CRV (she has a 20 mile commute each day on the highway) and has excellent UOA with 10K OCI and Lube Control added. All my used oil analysis are posted here if you do a search.

Thanks Whimsey I found it..Looks like a great oil, wonder why it's not widely used???? I must admit I have never heard of schaeffers til coming here...Salesrep has a nice little package going on so I will pick up some and see what flies....
