I have tried several oils in my 2002 Ford PSD.
I broke it in on Delo 15-40 and I switched to Mobile Delvac 1 5-40 at 10,000 miles I also use the delvac 1 in my 2001 VW TDI.
Then I was not sure about used the 5-40 in the PSD I was worried about it being to thin so I tried Schaeffers 7000 15-40 I liked it alot but it was alittle hard to get in my area. So I tried Amsoil 15-40 I though the price was good but with shipping not as good as I thought.
Out of all these oils I tried I was supprised that the Schaeffers 7000 15-40 got better fuel milage than all of them.
I am about to settle down with Schaeffers But not sure of which one to use now.
Is it a problem using 5-40 oil in a PSD?
It looks like Schaeffers 5-40 is close to the same price as the 15-40 and is more synthetic and I can use 5-40 in both the TDI and PSD.
I use the Big Amsoil BE110 bypass filter and like to change the FF filter at 5000 miles. Oil and FF filter at 10,000 miles and the Bypass filter at 20,000 miles.
So which Schaeffers oil is best for the Ford PSD?
Thanks, Ken

Ken,

I do not have any experience on the 5-40 with Schaeffers but I am currently using their 15W40 and have used AMSOIL 15W40. My truck loves the Schaeffers 15W40 and my wear numbers have declined while using it. I currently at 12,000 miles on the schaeffers and using the Oilguard eps-20 bypass filter.

I have used both the 7000 and 9000 in my 04 6.0 PSD and chose to stay with the 9000. I did pick up a solid .8 MPG with the 9000 and the truck is quieter now. I have a UOA listed in the diesel UOA section on this board, my wear numbers were excellent.
