2001 Ford PSD

I am about to finish my second Auto-Rx clean since new, on my 01 PSD. After using different oils in this engine, including full synthetic, and looking at the analysis, the best one was with the Schaeffers 15W40. So I am going to change back to this oil for the duration of my ownership.

My 95 PSD has been run the last 14 months on Royal Purple. The analysis at 12 months was excellent. In my quest for one oil for both trucks, I will be changing this truck back to Schaeffers 15W40 also.

So for me, now it will be easy when I have to order oil, then I can get the $250.00 order and free shipping from Schaeffers.

I have tried the lighter oils in both trucks and they both thrive on the 15W40 oils more than the lighter oils. Seems like less engine noise and less make-up oil is needed.

Have you used the 5w-40 Schaeffer's 9000 full synthetic version? That is what I just changed mine too after using Shell Rotella Synthetic 5w-40.

No I haven't tried the 5W40 Schaeffers. I have enough 15W40 for one change and then I have to order, but the 95 is not due until December. I may go the 5W40 route in both. I will watch and see how you like it and look for your VOA on it. You are highly modified compared to mine, so I am interested in how the 5W40 will hold up.

in the winters I have gone with using 5w 40's and then the 15w 40 in the summer . The 5w 40 s sure cure the romp-romps at start when it is somewhat cold out, though reports say that waiting longer after the WTS light has gone out cures this too. The 5w40s I have ussed so far are the Premium Blue Extreme and the Rotella T. My truck is the same year as yours and probably much like it in that it is not hardly modified at all. Right now I have just started its first ever ARx treatment in the clean phase.
Fuel milage for the past 5000 has been solid in the 17's , with everything from MMo (2qts), Howes, DK, 2-stroke oil mixes with acetone and DK for 1 tank, and have also just started the FP60 test. Sorry no OA's. 2 times in the past I have run the RP 15-40 for seperate OCI's, I think I like their gear oils more, which is the market they started in for Gulf Coast oil rig machinery so I was told when they first hit the street before anyone had heard of them and then they branched into race oils and PCMO. Still have RP in the differential which may need changing soon as it is past the 30k mi mark now.

I believe the new Amsoil 10w30, HD diesel oil (ACD) will turn out the be the best stuff to use in the newer 6.0L PSD's. It's priced the same as their excellent 15w40, but provides better performance, particularly in colder weather.

Amsoil is anticipating all the pickup truck diesels going from 15w40 to 10w30 (which can be made using conventional Group II+ basestocks). They are also expecting to see more automotive diesels when the ULSD fuel comes out next year.

I am currently running Schaeffer 15W40 and at the 10,000 mile mark the UOA numbers are really good and the truck really likes it, runs real nice.

I will post the latest UOA numbers here when I get a chance.

What is most interesting is the old days straight 30 was the mainstay in most of the big truck engines. Except the 2 cycles.

I decided to jump on the synthetic Rotella bandwagon for a test drive.

I've decided that I'll be going back to Delo 15w40 (or MC 15w40) as I've yet to see any noticeable gains other than improved mpg from a lighter wallet.

I'll prolly use the 5w40 synthetic in the winter however as there is a definite improvement in start up in subzero temps.
