Got a quote on a case of 12L today, comes off atleast 30% cheaper than M1 and even more than Amsoil off the shelf.

I am runningAmsoil OE 5w30 now and would like to give Schaeffers actry. How does it stack up? Good quality?

7000 5W30.

The only thing to watch out for is shearing out of grade. But that seems to be very common with energy conserving oils.

It offers better wear protection than many popular lubes on the market.

If your GMC has an LS-series V8, there shouldn't be a problem with shearing. Those are both good quality oils, and the GM V8 is easy on oil.

With the oil brands you've mentioned /used, I would have run them for 7K.

For 5K OCIs, Pennzoil conventional is the best value.
Schaeffers is a very good oil. Kinda' a waste to only use it for 5K.

Pennzoil costs more up here, and I won't buy Pennzoil. Plus, sitting at 265,000 kms/165,625 miles, so I don't want to run the oil until there is no life left in it.

Thanks.

Well, you can find Pennzoil conventional as cheap as anything else out there. It gets rolled back as nice as anything else. Aside from that, Quaker State Conventional is on sale at Canadian Tire this week, as is Mobil Super 2000, if you're looking for a high mileage synblend. I don't see anything wrong with your current choice, though, either.

Im currenly an AMSOIL user and making the switch to Schaeffers. They are both in the group 4 oil making them both a top choice. Three reasons I'm making the switch; First I hate haveing to sign up with AMSOIL to get a "discount", next is I hate having to pay for shipping, I can get Schaeffers at NAPA here, LAST Schaeffers uses MOLY in their oils. If you dont know Moly is a boundary lubricant. It withstands up to 500,000psi. Once it plates metal the only way to get it off is to grind it off. It plates up to 39 slippage planes, this is less than a micron so there are no clearance issues.

If you do make the switch I would sugesst using the extended OCI I know I already use it amsoil and plan on doing the same with Schaeffers. You should check out these videos:

Schaeffer 700 series is G II + and G IV pao
9000 series is G III and G IV PAO
Don't forget Schaeffer's patented friction modifier penetro that works in conjunction with moly.
