Here are the two samples I've done with my V10. Both were Schaeffer 7000 5W-20 oil. Interested in your opinions and ideas, particularly my second sample. Blackstone's notes are below too.

Running the Motorcraft FL-820S oil filter. My truck sees a lot of unloaded freeway miles during the week, city driving on the weekend and 2,000-3,000 miles of towing at trailer during the summer.

Here is what Blackstone wrote for my two samples:

Sample #1: Wear looks fine in this sample. Universal averages are based on only 4,400 miles on the oil, so the extra iron in your oil was simply due to the longer oil run. No contamination was present. Run 8,000 miles on your next fill.

Sample #2: The increase in sodium caught our attention, since it can show coolant contamination in the oil. With no excess potassium present (another marker for coolant) and your engine having only clocked 40,106 miles since leaving the factory, we truly doubt the sodium is from coolant though. Maybe this was a different type of oil or Schaeffer's changed their additive package a little bit since the June 2011 sample? Whatever the case, wear read nice and low so the oil appears to be working well for your engine. The trace of fuel isn't cause for concern.

What do you guys think about the elevated Sodium and low flashpoint? Since I still have 19K-ish on my warranty, I'm thinking of dropping my OC frequency to the 4,400 average and getting a few more samples done to see if the problem increases or was just a fluke. I'm also thinking about switching to MC oil at my next change and doing a few with it to see how that looks in my engine.

Inputs and ideas appreciated...

Very curious.... I'm not aware of Schaeffer making a formulation change on the 5w20, so the Sodium is confusing. As Blackstone said, there's no Potassium so I have no idea where it's coming from.

Wear looks fine otherwise.

If you want to know for sure contact Schaffer and ask if sodium is part of their new additive package, this seems very plausible considering the decrease in Calcium. Everything else looks fine.

The sodium is a bit of an oddity; would be nice to confirm or deny it's existience with either direct comment from Schaeffers or a VOA (VOA would be much better). Keep and eye on coolant level and try to ascertain the source of sodium.

The wear, itself, is admirable. Low wear rates for sure. Everything else looks fine. Nothing but praise for this engine at this point.

Schaeffer is using a sodium based additive pkg
for its API/SN Supreme 7000 oils. Check out the latest VOA's.

Ford recommends going off the truck's computer for the oil change. Right now, it is telling me to go about 8,000 miles between changes. The engine warranty is good through 60K miles, which I'll hit by this time next year.

I am using the Supreme 7000 oil (should have put that in the title, sorry). What's a VOI?

What about the low flashpoint, is that anything to worry about?

VOA - Virgin Oil Analysis…knew I'd remember it. Thanks guys, I won't worry about anything then. Might do a VOA on my oil next time around for grins and giggles.

With the source of the Sodium identified, I'd say run to at least the minimum of the OEM OCI (probably 7.5k miles?) and not look back. I don't think this rig has an "intelligent" OLM minder; it's strictly distance based (that is also how my 2010 Fusion is predicated). Does this rig have an IOLM, or it just a "dumb" mileage based one?

Given these results, I'd say run the max allowed OCI, skip the UOAs for a while, and just enjoy the savings.
