This is my 1st post on BITOG, so please be gentle.

I would like some feedback on the Schaeffer #132 Moly EP additive.

My family drives beater cars and I want to squeeze as much life out of them as possible. They all use a little oil (about a quart about every 2000 miles), so using a premium oil like Schaeffers or Amsoil with extended OCI would be expensive with the quart of make-up oil every 2000 miles.

I am thinking of using the Schaeffer #132 Moly EP additive with an inexpensive conventional oil like Formula Shell or Chevron Supreme.

A search of BITOG shows some old posts about using the #132 additive as part of the famous "MolaBrew", but nothing recent. Are any of you using this stuff? If so, what are the results?

Also, will the Schaeffer 132 have any compatibility problem with AutoRx? Thanks for your help.

John

I used #132 Moly in the "MolaBrew" twice but not recently. I have three Hondas, two with over 100K miles and was looking for a way to keep my cars going. Used "MolaBrew" to keep engine clean after I had AutoRx'ed them. Haven't used it recently because I didn't feel like mixing it and I could not "tell" any difference.

Don't have any oil burning issues but my vote is to use AutoRx to see if it would help. Better yet you could use #132 Moly or "MolaBrew" first then AutoRx with the next oil change in an "unscientific" experiment.

The oil gurus can chime in but I would not use #132 with AutoRx based on what I have read of the chemistry of the products.

Thanks for the replies.

TurboJim, all my vehicles are in the rinse phase of AutoRx treatment. I am planning what to do next. Maybe AutoRx maintenance dose is best.

I you want to use a Schaeffer product, just go with one of their PCMO's. Better than mixing an additive into a cheaper oil.

A quart every 2000 miles isn't extreme.

I like Schaeffer's products a lot, but don't find a use for #132. It mainly thickens the oil plus a slug of additives that aren't really needed. I've knows some folks to put a bottle of 132 into an engine the first time they use Schaeffer's #7000 syn-blend oils, 'cuz in a few engines the Schaeffer chemistry causes excessive oil consumption for a short time.

I agree with the Auto-Rx recommendation. I've seen it reduce oil consumption by 3/4s due to cleaning the rings and ring grooves and allowing the rings to flex and seal again. Also use Auto-Rx in the automatic transmissions. Do periodically renew ALL fluids in the car for longest life, including power steering fluid and brake fluid.

I saw a VOA of this on here somewhere, cant find it tho. no high levels of anything, but i believe it had a good base

Hi John,

Both fluids are excellent but are used for different purposes.

I too would try an ARX regime first.

You can use ARX with mineral oils so the cleaning regime would be more cost effective than using synthetic oils exclusively.

132 has low levels of AW additives with more antimony than moly and zddp, but has an excellent friction modifier and a very clean oil thickener.

Thanks to all of you for the feedback.

I think I will first finish the AutoRx treatment to see how much the oil consumption improves. I did a compression check one one of my "beaters" at the beginning of the AutoRx treatment, then again at 700 miles (because the engine felt stronger). The AutoRx has definitely helped the rings as compression and fuel economy has improved. I will check compression again at end of the rinse phase.

Since I'm an engineer and just have to experiment with stuff, I'll try the #132 afterwards and look for any effect on oil consumption, compression, and mileage. I'm looking for the ideal "beater" treatment and maintenance plan! I'll be sure to report my results here.

If its a thickener as you say - maybe I will give it a try in my Lombardini along with S9000. My lombardini is loud and 10.8 vis of ACD is not very thick oil for a GENSET running in 100F temps. I already bottled the # 132 up and will send it out with my VOA of S9000 and my used oil analysis of my DSG 75W VW transmission oil. All will be post on this forum.

Yes as it helps reduce oil oxidation in most engines.

Don't use it if you're using ARX, since we don't want any chemical competition.

I have been using the brew for a few years now on multiple vehicles. When I was having used oil analysis performed the results were slightly better with the brew but it has been a while since I had a used oil analysis. Still use the # 132 though. I posted a VOA on the #132 a few years ago but now sure it can be found.

Does it help, well, like most additives, who knows. All the engines in use a few years ago still going, so I use it through habit I guess.

Where can I buy this online?
On ebay I see two different type of packaging. Are both real or is one of them counterfeit?

^ I believe the top bottle is a newer bottle. ^ I haven't bought it in a while though. The formula ASAIK has not changed.
