Looks interesting.

Do a search on "scanguage" and you will find multiple threads on it. I had started at least one thread on "scanguage", and know that I replied to at least one other. Yes, I think it is one of the greatest, most interesting, tools available for OBDII vehicles. Just do a search.

Ahh...the intricacies of the search engine. I did a search using scangauge not scan gauge, and it did turn up the second link you posted. Seeing as you have one, can you tell me what colour the backlighting is?

Cheers.

The buttons are backlit with an orange glow. As far as the display itself, I am unsure right now if its other anything than orange. I will have to check as I cant remember for sure.

What would you be expecting from this guage?

Those things just "tell" you what's up. If your a gadget king, get it. They are kind of big and bulky too. I know some friends that have one and they think it's cool to know what's going on with the engine at all times. Kind of hard to look at while driving.

Its a guage, similar to other guages in the dash, to be glanced at like any other guage. Its not meant to be stared at, transfixed or hypnotized by. Of couse mounting is the key. It comes with velcro strips to mount anywhere, and I have mine mounted on the dash. But if you prefer a red light to flash in your periferal(sp) vision to indicate trouble , thats fine with me. Give me more info, and I will sift through what I dont need.

Did a search and found 10 hits, two of which were mine. None except mine actually had the term scangauge in the topic, so if you'd never heard of this item, how would you do a search for it? My posting it with 'scangauge' in the topic allows others who have never heard of the item to discover it.

These are the two threads I was thinking of. Did your search turn thses up?

Yes, I enjoy reading my scanguage on my 2000 GMC Sonoma while driving. Helps me to be a more economical driver, in my opinion. Good thing in this day, looking at gas prices.

And I guess the search should have been scan guage and not scanguage.

Here's a similar product but in a 2 1/16 diameter (perfect for A-pillar gauge pods). The Interceptor scan gauge just came out. It plugs into the OBD-2 port, reads 24 parameters, and comes in different colors. I think I'm going to have to buy one of these. Looks pretty nifty...

I ordered one of the Scangauge systems, works great but I wish it had a Transmission temp read out, The Interceptor does but is missing the MPG readout and the trip data. If they could just combine the two!!!!!!!!!!!!

As of 2002 or so before the new codes came out- Most vehicles other than GM don't have fuel tank level readouts or Battery voltage. So the trip gas milage will not be available on the majority of cars (including all Japanese vehicles) There are competing technologies for Ford/Chrysler and these also only will read the basic 10 or 11 parameters (Ones required by OBD standardization)

I'm not sure what any of that has to do with the Scangauge. EDIT: I see you're talking about the competing product.

The Scangauge measures battery voltage directly--it doesn't get it from the PCM.

I'm not quite sure how the Scanguage measures fuel consumption, but I can assure you that it doesn't do it by measuring fuel tank level. (The fuel tank sender in my 1996 Ford Contour isn't connected to anyplace but the instrument cluster..the PCM has no idea how much fuel is in the tank).

Yea I should have been able to figure the battery voltage out

But I don't see how how it can measure milage

OBD2 cars have a "VSS" (vehicle speed sensor) that operates the speedo and is used by the PCM to control engine operation. I think it calculates MPG by measuring the amount of fuel injected, based on injection pulse width and engine RPM and engine load and mileage traveled. My Scangauge seems to be OK as it shows the MPG that I know it delivers. 20 MPG at 70 MPH with 2002 GMC Sierra with 5.3.

It also puts an engine displacement coefficient into equation. I had to fine-tune my ScanGauge "engine volume" setting to match my consumption measured at the pump.
Great tool.

Injector information is not available to a non GMC vehicle and even if it were injector sizes are different. I'm going to email/call them to get the story. Even though I have an OBD-II I'm thinking of buying this bad boy

This thing is totally cool. It does justa about everything a scan tool does except some of the capture features. I paid 400 bucks for my scan tool and this is thing is $130 bucks and Made in USA

Took a trip in town..this is the kind of info you get :

Average Speed-17 mph
High Speed 48 mph
Highest RPM -2662
Highest Water Temperature-197
Distance -9 Miles
Driving time .4 Hours
Gasoline used- .3 Gal
Miles Per Gallon- 28.7

Saturday night-what the heck-I'll over post. Anyway for those who own this scangauge. ..My unit doesn't come on automatically. I have to hit the "Home" button. Any others have the same "problem"

Anyway..kudos to scangauge. I emailed them twice to day on this problem. They wanted to know the exact model of vehicle I had. In the second letter they told me to display voltage on one of the outputs (after pressing the "Home" button. I should then watch what the voltage jumped to when the car is started. The theory is that my voltage is not jumping enough to activate the scangauge. They said it takes between 1 and 2 volts to do that.
