What is so special about ABS DTCs that the scan tool manufacturers charge you significantly more for scan tools which can read ABS codes? I have an Innova 3130 tool and a software download from the Innova site to enable ABS code capability is $100. Yeah, right. I would rather invest my money in the purchase of AutoEnginuity which will give me a lot more functions than just ABS code reading.

On my truck, ABS codes are broadcast on the Class 2 network just like all the other DTCs. I really don't see anything special about ABS codes. So, unless I am missing something, this ABS code capability seems to be a bit of a ripoff.

ABS codes are NOT OBD2 emissions related. And most importantly, they are not standardized.
They are proprietary to the mfr.
This is why they are not included in most scanners.
They have to pay to get the codes for every car, and have a system that reads it properly.

There it is. (And he is right).

Also the ABS codes provided by an entry level scanner would be vary basic and mostly just wheel speed sensor codes when there are many ABS codes and commands at the factory scanner level.

OK, got it. Thanks for the explanation.

But if you DO get an ABS code, it is almost always due to crud on the sensors or teeth on the ring, or a broken wire or connector.

There are no "works on all vehicles" ABS scanners (at least in my price range). Autel makes individual ones for domestic, japanese and eurpoean vehicles respectively. I had the one for japanese but its implementation was buggy so I had to return it.

If you have domestic vehicles, the Innvoa is the best deal.
