My dad is preparing to buy a new zero turn. He bought a Dixon 30 inch cut new in 1994, got 15 years out of it before it wore out, and bought another 30 inch cut in 2009, this one has not been as good. 8 years old and its falling apart, and in my opinion, absolute trash. He mentioned to me that he was ready to buy a new one, our local dealer sells Gravely, Ariens and Scag. Gravely makes a 34 with a Kohler, Ariens a 34 with a Kohler (Ariens and Gravely must be similar as I think Gravely owns Ariens or vice versa) and Scag makes a 36 inch with either a Kohler or Kawasaki. The Scag seems very well built, and i told him he should go with the Kawasaki engine. My cousin has one on his Gravely and its been absolutely trouble free in 2400 hours. I'm not a fan of the newer Briggs engines, they seem cheaply made. Lets hear some opinions. He'd like to get at least 10 years out of this new one, he'll be 71 next next month and he still refuses to let me cut the grass and do things for him. He enjoys it and as long as he's in good health I say let him do it.
