This was parked next to me today. And we are expecting a big rain storm this afternoon.

You see that on family mini vans in the dead of winter in Utah. We did away with safety inspections about 5 years ago. Highway patrol states bald tires are a major cause of accidents in the winter time. The state Legislator who originally sponsored the bill to do away with inspections got ticked off because the inspection station failed him for a burned out license plate bulb. So now we have bald tires in the winter time.

Not them Steve Harvey specials
Or the Steve Ballmer slides 🤪

Times like this make me glad I live in the (as Eric O puts it) Peoples republic of New York, where such tires should not be on the road
The system is far from perfect, but it's a check

Wow! It's evenly worn across the whole width of the tire; when do you ever see that?

This would be a great photo to share in the "Texas about to do away with inspections" thread.
This is a prime example of why inspections can be a good thing.
Before you get too giddy, why you ask the OP what state he's from and if they have a state inspection.

Well for your information, I don't particularly care where he's from and I do like to get giddy from time to time. Proper state inspections can and will prevent this dangerous situation far more often than not. Cheers to being giddy! ;) 🍻

OP says he's from Maine and if Google is to believed, "Maine requires all vehicles to undergo a safety inspection once a year."

If we learned anything from 3 years ago, it's that people think claims of safety and "for your own good" trump any conception of mind-your-own-business.
