The 3.0L used in the Saturn L-series is a bit of an odd duck.
It was an Opel engine with a strange 54 degree V angle. We saw it over here in the Cadillac Catera, Saturn L-Series and Vue (before the Honda V6 came along), and Cadillac CTS (before the HFV6 was introduced).
Personally, I'd avoid it. So many better choices out there. If you're stuck on a LW, I'd go for the LW200 with the 2.2L Ecotec. You won't find many (any?) people talking fondly about the 3.0L.
I had a 2002 L300 sedan with the 3.0 V6. The only thing that ever went wrong was a O2 sensor. My younger son used it in college and for his first job. I picked it up with about 30k miles from Florida, and he drove it about 50k miles with zero problems until it was totalled in an accident. The plastic body panels are nice as they do not show minor door dings, so they tend to look really good even for 10-15 year old cars. I might be the odd duck, but it served me well, and was cheap for insurance for my son.
