There will always be someone that says to get up from in front of the "idiot box" but in spite of their comments, there are some great educational programs on some channels.

We have DirecTv and have had it for over 6 years. No problems what so ever....customer service is great and they are good about giving away free movie channels on your anniversary of starting service. Usually a month free for each year....at least with us it is.

It takes a really heavy rain to lose complete service....and I mean heavy. Our HD feed goes out first but we seldom lose SD feed.

For the record, a lady that works with my wife went from Direct to Dish to "save money". After a year, she went back to DirecTv.

12+ years with DirecTV. Tried cable for a month, we ripped it out, and put D* back right away.

I wont ever go DIRECT TV honestly as I know better from talking to friends about their price hikes; so no thank you. I know enough that tells me that dish network is better and that a complete sports package is cheaper than direct tv. Thanks for the info and "opinions" guys.

Been a Dish Subscriber for 11 + years now. Fantisic service if you ever need it, only once in the 11 years. Now giving Free Stars for a year, last price increase was 3 years ago for the outrageous sum of $1.00 per month.

I've lost complete service in not very heavy rain before. Anything loud enough to hear on the roof is enough to screw with the service.

Could be a [censored] install though...the dish is close to the ground near a corner of the house. Lots of interference over there with more than mild rain.

I've seen clouds cut Dish and DirecTV out.

The big V owns DirecTV. Be prepared for sales calls. They never give up with trying to take more of your money.

I'll stick with cable if it is available and paired with internet. But, if you need the satellite, I'd go with Dish.

Regardless, make sure the satellite is on the highest spot of your tree, pole, roof.... don't let them shortcut with a ground or wall mount. The install techs for both companies will try to take the easiest route for the install.

My dish is on the pole that our old Primestar dish was on. It's low enough for me to clean as well as spray a little Honda polish on it to help keep it clean.

We have a rather large dish for the HD and I get constant signals in the 90+ region so it really takes a lot of rain to block it. Like I said, the HD goes first then the SD...if it rains really hard and heavy. There are no trees to block our dish and never will be so we are lucky there.

If one compares programming from one to the other, the costs work out about the same per month after the "special" deals run out.

I've don't think I have a single nice word to say about Directv. DISH on the other hand has been nothing but great. I have 4 HDTV's through them and a Slingbox setup. Never had issues ever. Watched TV even through snow storms here in Minnesota.
