Hello again and sorry to be a pain in the rear; but I am getting DISH NETWORK and does anyone know which is better; DISH NETWORK or DIRECT TV? Just wondering as mom and stepfather and real father have dish network and love it. Let me know your experiences, thoughts and Advice.

I've been a DirecTV customer for 10+ years. Extremely happy with the service. So much so that I've held off on switching to Verizon Fios despite the huge increase in internet speed I'd get over my current DirecTV and Verizon DSL setup.

Don't have any bad customer service stories. Their price increases over the years have been very small and infrequent, it has all the channels I want in HD, and the picture quality and reliability are excellent.

X2. Directv SUCKS.

Want to watch a movie? Forget hitting a button on the remote, you have to make a phone call. The movies have 24 hour run times, but it starts at a set time. For example, a movie will be available to rent from 6AM to 6AM the next day. Say you order the movie at 10PM...you better watch it that night, because at 6AM your rental is up and you have to pay for it again. A MUCH worse deal than a regular rental, plus movies are usually around $5.99. You pay that much to have access to a movie for a few hours.

Their prices are all over the place. You can usually find some stupid deal when you sign up, but after a few months it's up and they jack your bill up.

And the stuff about bad weather and satTV, it's true. Anything more than a light rain and everything gets pixilated a choppy, if it shows up at all.

I seriously regret switching from Time Warner Cable. It was cheaper, more reliable, easier, and just all around better.

I have no experience with Dish, but anything has to be better than Directv.

We had Dish for 8 years until we recently switched to Verizon because we had internet and home phone through them and it finally made $$$ sense to switch. We had great service from Dish, with the only problems coming during very severe thunderstorms.

I was a DishNetwork customer for 11 years.

I only dropped them to pick up AT&T U-verse, so I could get high speed internet. Otherwise, I'd still be watching DishNetwork.

Thank you very much for the advice guys. Think I will like it; as COMCAST seems to be taking channels away; which I hate. Friends that have it like it so we shall see. I will report back in a couple months.

I have this combo of [censored] as well, but with AT&T as the DSL provider. The DSL is fast when it works (fiber optic in my area), but it cuts out all the time. You'll be surfing the internet, then suddenly the link you click won't load. The next screen is the stupid AT&T "We've fixed the problem! Restart your browser." page. Fixed the problem my [censored], restarting the browser means losing the web page I'm on.

Cable is infinitely better than satellite/DSL. The only reason not to go with cable is if it's not available where you live.

Have been with DirecTV for 14 years. The HD picture quality is always superb. It is truly only limited by the signal the channel is sending them to resend to you. The reason is MPEG-4 encoding of the signals. Even the picture quality on the local channels is excellent. Tonight I am watching the Big 12 BB Tournament on a local channel through the sattelite, that I can pick up over the air in HD, and the picture is as good as OTA. Customer service is just OK. Most CS reps have language issues even when your call is handled in the US. My last encounter was good however. When I called to cancel my subscription to MLB Extra Innings the price went down $60 in a matter of seconds, although I still cancelled, due to the GF's cancer, not a lot of time to watch it. The equipment is of top quality and always up to date. In 14 years I have had 4 receivers and never paid any upgrade fees.

I hate Comcast with a passion..They are always taking away channels and their satellite is constantly freezing up on every channel 24/7...They also have the worlds worst service.

Dish is great for movies, Direct TV is great for sports fans. I have Dish and love it and I get my football and car racing plus the better half and I get our fill of movies.

Get yourself out from in front of the television. All you'll pay for is 200 channels of nothing worth watching.

Get out and get yourself some exercise. Spend some time outdoors in the sunshine-your physical and mental health will both improve.

The DirecTV & DSL combo is the absolute cheapest way (not including limited time promo rates) to get both HDTV service and "high speed" internet. I'm well aware that cable or Fios would be much faster internet, but frankly for anything but watching videos online DSL has proven to be totally sufficient. YMMV. Web surfing and Xbox Live gaming are quite good. The DSL around here is extremely reliable. I'm pretty sure I can count on one hand the number of outages I've experienced over the last 8 or 9 years.

I'm almost leaning towards this. I don't even watch that much TV anymore. The Directv bill at my house is $140 a month for garbage. That's around $4.50 a day. I'd rather buy a couple beers. I put up with it only because I don't pay the whole thing...my roommates pay a share too.

Kind of dumb to pay $4.50 a day to watch stupid reality shows and weird documentary type shows (Hoarders). Plus, we got some sports package that doesn't really get used that much.

I agree very much with Pop Rivit. Im going thru a phase of moving myself away from excessive internet/TV. We only have 25 TV channels anyway but its SUCH [censored]!....being outside, getting some sun, walking, riding my bike etc is far more satisfying....this is what I did as a kid growing up on the farm in England....TV is brainwashing and we are being ripped off by these TV & internet providers...they have us by the nuts and we continue to pay! go sniff some MMO and get back to reality!

I will say one thing; I am getting the NHL network and sports package that my bro has and ton of rebates so I will pay less. Also I hear DIRECT TV is little more than dish. I think I will be fine as I have been thru He** with Communist cast [censored]. I have a neighbor that has DISH NETWORK and he hardly ever loses signal or anything in bad weather; so the weather thing is very, very questionable in my Very honest opinion. I love sports and my real dad does also and he hated direct tv sports stuff as he didnt get some of what he ordered and paid for. He loves dish network.
