So I got this San Disk 8 GB Micro SD card at wally world, and it also came with an SD card adapter.

The Micro SDHC card works fine with my BlackBerry Pearl phone (which has a Micro SD slot), but when I use the SD card adapter, nothing recognizes it: laptop (using USB card reader), nor my Blu Ray player which has a regular SD card slot.

(the card reader is ok - regular SD cards all work fine with it)

Any ideas why this might be?

EDIT: I am getting an idea: my laptop is about 7 yrs old, and may not recognize any "HC" cards (SD OR Micro-SD?)???
(same with the BR player? although it's new - HOWEVER, i also know that for the blu ray player, there's a limit, even with regular SD cards, of 4 GB - I guess I went over that anyway...so)

well i take it back about the BD player - just checked the manual:
according to it, Micro SDHC cards should work ok with an adapter:

Is the card formatted properly? The best thing to do would be to format it using a USB card reader, but since yours isn't working...

I know when I worked at SanDisk a few months ago, they took compatibility very seriously, and the only "problem" I am aware of is some of the SD speed class test isn't rated higher because of the 3LC memory (3bit per cell) and the test data chunk size not being aligned. In real world it won't impact performance (why would a video be aligned to 4MB in size in real world rather than 6MB in size?), and they meet every single spec out there.

My interpretation on why Blue Ray player doesn't work is that the player isn't well designed in the SD interface. Why else would only a Panasonic work (they must have only tested a small sample of Panasonic cards, otherwise why not Toshiba cards, they are a lot more common)? and that if a PC formated the card into NTFS, then the blue ray can't read it.

For PC, I think sxg6's link says it all.

SD is a very quirky interface that not everyone can get it right, especially if the host is trying to use those quirky pseudo security commands to read or write.

Thanks for all the input guys...
I will install that SW update for MS and see...

As for BD player - i am checking with other owners at AVS
will update when i get some feedback there.

It's not a biggie anyway: the BP player can also play mp3s loaded on to a USB flash dive, so I might just do that ...
I was just playing with the idea of having some background music for gatherings, etc, without meddling with the cd changer a lot..

Pandabear: will let you know. Thanks a lot.
