San Diego Cyclone

OK, not really a cyclone, but some pretty serious wind last night. One of my trees fell across my neighbors fence, cars all over the place are smashed up from trees falling on them, and a woman was even killed when a tree fell on her car.

I was pretty surprised this morning to see the fence at the back of my property on the ground. It's actually my neighbor's chain-link fence, and part of my eucalyptus tree fell on it. The posts were less than a foot into the ground, with concrete around them, and almost all of them pulled out. I think it will just be a matter of lifting it back up and anchoring it better, once I get the tree trunks off of it. It doesn't look badly damaged, just knocked over.

I feel very fortunate that we have no more serious damage than that. As I mentioned, a woman was killed when a tree fell on her car, along with two other cars. There is also quite a bit of property damage around the county. A few schools are even closed. I have recently been constructing a shed/workshop in the back to do some metal fabrication and so on, and I'm glad to say it survived. I was worried about windows breaking last night, the hail was hitting them so hard.

We haven't had weather like this in quite a few years. Hopefully we won't have too much more.

We had some heavy wind all day yesterday. I was cooped up in the house not wanting to be far from a bathroom so it was fine with me. No damage to the house that I could see this morning.

It blew through here last night too. No damage, but I had my recycling bin blown over and some tree branches blew into my yard and get stuck in my cacti.

We actually had a tornado hit my house a few years ago. It damaged out back fence and knocked the spark arrestor off the chimney. It took most of my neighbor's roof off.

Yes, but here we have soil that doesn't turn to soup when it rains for 3 days, either. Californians get a discount on windspeed bragging rights in exchange for soil liquefication bragging(?) rights...

Yes, but here we have soil that doesn't turn to soup when it rains for 3 days, either. Californians get a discount on windspeed bragging rights in exchange for soil liquefication bragging(?) rights...

We are lucky this year to have few drops of water from the sky, rain for a day is once a decade, 3 consecutive days is only once a century.

Strongest South, then NW winds I've ever experienced in 22 years of being in S California.

The gusts here seem to have a different flavor than elsewhere. Less frequent, but building quickly, holding for a while then dissipating. A slower rise and fall than elsewhere. Mostly.

Still as far as storms go, not really comparable to what the rest of the country can experience, in my opinion

I must just visit at the right (wrong!) times, because I've had my travel messed up by flooding in San Diego twice, Oxnard once, and LA once, all within the last 20 years and never part of the same storm system. Need me to come out and bring rain?

Of course I've also been in San Diego when wildfires were burning like mad twice (different years), too....

It was pretty bad here in Lakeside. Hail woke me up three times last night. I counted 20 downed trees today and even saw a huge billboard blown over.

Of course I've also been in San Diego when wildfires were burning like mad twice (different years), too....

We need you come to visit us every year to bring some rain.

I am a little tired of thinking of new way to save another gallon of water a day. According to water bills of the last few months we are using 23-25 gallons of water per person a day, about 75% less than national average, trying to cut down water usage to 20 gallons/person a day is not so easy.

I do have to say they are pretty helpful when there is an outage. Also the guys that work for them are usually pretty nice.
