So I got my elderly friend a new Galaxy Note 3, its the Verizon model. I had it on Pageplus Cellular for 2 months everything worked great, and then I switched him over to Red Pocket Mobile. Calls and texts work great but the phone will not show any mobile network (1X, 3G, or 4GLTE) at the top and data doesn't work at all. I put the Red Pocket Mobile SIM in my dads Note 3 and everything worked fine.
I put my dads tracfone sim in the phone that won't show data and the same thing happens, no data, so there has to be something with the phone.
I completely wiped the phone and that didn't work. I checked the secret menus in the phone and it show that it is 4G capable but says disconnected from mobile network.

Anyone have any suggestions?

So I was just messing around in the settings and I was put in under CDMA mode only and now I am getting a little 4G and the up and down arrows, but its not the normal 4G LTE symbol that should be up there, ran a speed test on it and I'm only getting 0.8mpbs, so that's like really slow. As soon as I put it back in LTE/CDMA or global it goes away. Also MMS doesn't seem to work. I'm not sure what is going on.....

Well you can worry this all day or do what I do when you have a problem take it to the closest Red Pocket Mobile and they'll have you smiling in less than three minutes is my guess and you can spend the rest of your day being productive!

Got another app that allows you to see a ton of information. If you have it in CDMA mode it shows GPRS is connected and mobile network connected. Ando shows under the carrier as verizon wireless.
And if you put it in LTE/CDMA it shows GPRS and Mobile Netowrk as disconnected. Under carrier it shows as unknown.
So its definitely something with the phone and not a red pocket mobile problem.

Tried that. It's makes you download their app and then the app tells me its not a red pocket mobile sim. Did research and that app I guess is broken and doesn't work.

Phone won't allow me in the apn settings. Says it is restricted for this user. Which makes nonsense because I'm the only user on it.

Unlocked? I once had an S3 that was locked to AT&T and I had to unlock it to work on T-Mobile.

Yeah I had it on Page Plus Cellular before being on Red Pocket mobile and 4G worked then. I had mobile data turned to off and he only turned it on to get MMS messages. I had it still off when I switched it over to Red Pocket and I didn't notice it till he said he couldn't get MMS any more.

I used to have page plus for a while. If I remember, you could put any verizon logo'ed device on their system as long as it passed the ESN check (no blacklist, etc).

I don't think red pocket has this agreement with VZW.

I forget the procedure but you may need to request that it be unlocked by VZW.

On a GSM device if you put in a non native sim, it just says enter code, and that will unlock the phone when you give it the right code. I think on CDMA it is done on the carrier side?

The MMS not working is very common when you get into unlocked phones. You need to get the correct APN settings, and its still a gamble getting it working at all.

My wife has a native cricket phone on cricket and still has problems with MMS, and we have played with the APN settings for a year and engaged cricket support.

Different carriers have different ways they do MMS, and have limits for image size, etc. If you send from one carrier a big message, the other will just drop it if it doesn't meet their size requirements.

Just use google chat or something to send photos.

I'm thinking it's just the phone. Everything works perfect with the SIM in my dads phone so maybe it's not truly unlocked. I don't know. I went ahead and put google Allo on there for him and I'm going to show him how to use that. That way he can at least get pictures form his grand kids.
