will a 80w-90wt Gear lube satisify a 90wt requirement? For use in Mitsubishi AWD Transfer case. The manual only list 90WT this is hard to find. I did see a 80W-90 castrol that had a picture of a boat on it. on the back it said that it replaces a 90WT application. the boat lower gear unit application made me unsure about using it. The transfer case is a high fail item b/c the wrong lubes have been used there. I did order the Factory 90WT LSD GL-5 oil seem this is the only lube that does not allow the transfer case to self distruct. The redline MT-90 has not been able to protect this transfer case. It only requires .58qt so I can see the lube getting stressed under load.

Does it have a combined hypoid diff requiring the GL 5 ?
If it recquires a GL 5, MT-90 wont protect it as it is a GL 4 spec lube. MT-90 is designed for synchro gearbox use, not an EP/hypoid application. It specifically precludes this use on the bottle.
Generally, any high quality 75w-90 GL 5 or 80w-90 GL 5 will be able to substitute a straight 90 GL 5.
I always find it interesting that what is common in one part of the world, can be next to impossible to find somewhere else. As you may have guessed, I can buy an EP 90, or 90 LSD almost anywhere here.

do you know if the Motul ester 75W-90 would be a good oil for the Transfer case/diff. I do not want to run a dual rated GL-4/GL-5 in the transmission. I do not have the knolwedge to determine if it is safe for the synchro's.

With that small volume, my personal bias is towards a full synthetic oil, and I'd be using the best I could afford.
I'm sure the Motul would work fine. (Gear 300 75w-90) It seems to have a good reputation.
I've used NEO 75w-90 HD and Castrol Syntrax and both are excellent oils. (and are safe with yellow metal)
