This thing was tough to cut open! The groove was not in an ideal spot for my cutter. Never cut any filters open before, and I think I'm addicted. I have a few used ones that I could post as well. But first lets post some pictures of this art work.

Can is a pretty thick. I don't have a way to measure it.

Assuming this is the date.

I did not think this was gonna come out of here. Prying and twisting with my hands wouldn't budge it. Had to go grab (2) pairs of 18" channel locks and twist is off/out.

Cast aluminum base plate, interesting design.

What filter cutter is that, not seen before.

Got it from Amazon for $36

I wanted to just buy some mondo tubing cutters as I have a bunch from my plumbing and pipefitting days, but my goodness...the price. This was a lot easier pill to swallow. I coulda swore I had some large ones, but my biggest only goes to 2 -5/8" IIRC. This cutter worked slick on my 6.7L Powerstroke's filter and my 5.9L Cummins. But it took some serious doing to get through this 1R-1807. Very slight pressure increases and just around and around. However many times you go around a regular filter...multiply that by like 30. It was dumb. Just a combination of the depression of the crimp, the thickness, and then some little indention nibs that were perfectly placed to throw a wrench in the works.

I have cut open a ton of them in the past. Their style of construction has been the same for 40 yrs or so.
The filter cutter Cat sell/uses has 2 position cutter wheels that can cut close to the gasket surface or about 1/2-5/8 of an inch away from that surface to cut this style with the deeper base plate.

Oh I forgot that Cat and Baldwin sell the same filter cutter if you are looking for a top notch cutter.

Will you please measure the width across the base plate? I have been thinking about using one of these on my truck but I think the OD might be too big.

Thank you. It should fit with those measurements. I am using DBL7405 right now with a 4.65 OD. Any bigger and it will hit, I can barely get the wrench between it and the pan.

Okay thanks again you are correct. For some reason it came up as a cross before, seems 244-4484 is the one I need. Sorry to derail your work of art thread.

CAT 175-7546 just ordered one of these for $92 delivered. Looks like the price was about $100 lower than everywhere else. Not sure why...lol. They only had one left. Coming from Foley CAT which is a real place...looks like

I figure I'm going to be opening a ton of these things up so why not. Thanks for the heads up.

Not a derail at all. They do have on with those threads 1R-1808 IIRC, but also IIRC it is 5+ inches like 5.3" wide. These are supposed to be 100% @ 20 microns, but when I look at their little chart deal it looks more like 24-25 micron and then 99% @ 20. See if I can find the graph deal.
