Saab 9-3 Oil choice

that was gonna be my suggestion if he didn't wanna go with the Mobil 1 0w-40 or GC.

If you want to stay w/ the GM spec, the 0W40 is the best choice. Changing it yourself is considerably cheaper than paying $120, even with full price Mobil 1...

I just saw a used oil analysis for Mobil 1 0W40 in a 9-3 that had gone maybe 7k miles and the stuff had thinned a tad. Still had good tbn though...

This same oil is what is specified for my 87 Carrera, which requires 13 quarts. It is good stuff, it is what is specified for your car. You are going 15k on a crankcase. You could save some dough by doing it yourself, but I am going to recommend that you stay with this factory reco and just deal with the fact that it is crazy expensive!!!

13 quarts is a lot. I thought 8 or 9 quarts was a well-lubricated sump. Like a Corvette's "Dret" sump.. Little Honda CRXs use 4 quarts flat incl. filter.

Are you asking if 911's of that era actually require this amount of oil? It is absolutely the case, especially if you take the time to truly drain the system. Remember that it is both the oil and the coolant in this car.
