2011 2.4 Mitsubishi Lancer for 5 months ~ 7,300 miles~. Used with STP 0W-20. Some wavy pleats there. I’ve used this oil filter 2-3 times already but I don’t remember if the base of the threads looked that rough on the previous ones.

PXL57356 & Kirkland 0W-20 went back in.

The way the basement plate metal reacted to being drilled and threaded is indicative of cheap Chinese steel . The hardness is not correct so it rips and tears and doesn't leave a clean edge. Take my word for this observation , I've dealt with it many times and it was always Chinese steel . No consistency .
 
Another thing to look for. I never saw anything as bad as that one. It looks like this is an after picture. There is no possibility of a before pic to compare what chunks were there at the beginning. Maybe with a little mirror or borescope.
