S. African Study on 2T oil addition to Diesel

Whenever I mention 2t is different than tcw3 I get yelled at. Tcw3 is for lower temperature burning.

I found the study interesting in that zinc present in the 2T oil was the big bugaboo. Does anyone know.....Does the water cooled variety of 2 stroke oil contain zinc....And if so, how much? It seems like a bad thing to add to either diesel or gasoline. (The zinc, I mean.)

Yeah, I think that was an intentional fail...no-one who displayed the rigour of the testing method would have made that mistake unless they wanted to.

Weirdly enough, when the VP44 injection pump was hanging up & failing on my '02 Cummins powered Ram pickup, 2T TCW-3 in the fuel at roughly 1 quart/30 gallons, or around 120:1, DID make a difference in how often the pump screwed up (it would stick in idle position in hot weather & take several attempts to accelerate before it broke loose & worked). I did eventually have it replaced by Dodge before the 100K warranty was up (after taking it to FIVE different dealers, a story for another day).

But the engines that will benefit from adding it to the fuel dont have cats anyway.

Not going to make any difference, that additive package id ashless no big deal.

I can see more wrong...

what temperature was the fuel tested at? ASTM allows 25 or 60°C.. big difference.

It occurs to me that the tester didn't want to show a benefit and chose the testing method and oils accordingly
