I've been doing oil change on parents car which now has close to 160k km on it.
For the past 3 oil changes, I've put in Motomaster Syn F1 5w30 which from my research is made by Shell.
Oil filters have been purolator classic or pureone.
I used to feed this car with Valvoline conventional and then upgraded to PP. I did all these based on 8K km OCI. PCV has been replaced 18K ago, old one was still working when I pulled it off.
With the F1, first two oil change I did 10k km OCI and just finished changing the 3rd time yesterday at 8.5k km. I know the engine is hard the oil, but most of the time this vehicle is driven on the highway, so I thought it wouldn't matter much.
Based on the manual, 4.7L should go in with filter, or 4.5L with no filter. I usually just dump the whole 5L in and dipstick would show that it's not overfilled.
I measured the oil drained plus whatever I can get out of the oil filter. I've been getting around 4.1-4.3L plus if there are still any remaining in the filter and the oil catch container. I usually wait till oil only drip very slowly before putting the drain bolt back on.
Is this consider a lot of oil burnt or I can just safely continue? Do sludge usually cause even more oil burnt or mine is showing the signs of it?
I'm going back to 8K km OCI with synthetic, my next and last bottle stored is synpower. Should I go back to PP for its cleaning ability? I remember the engine was also burning that oil too.
