So my Nissan 300ZX has gone through two heater cores now and it is due to the fact that there is rust in the coolant and even after changing the coolant about a week later it is a brownish color again. My thoughts are that the past owner used water so the block might be rusted and or the radiator. You guys would flip after seeing the color of the coolant when I first changed it. Any thoughts on what to do other than swap another motor into the car. Any products I can use for a case as severe as this?

There is no oil in the coolant, just looks like dirty water after a while.

evaporust is a great product and I would try it definitely. It works by using chelating agents so it should be safe.

of the coolant? It looks just like dirty water would look. Thats the best way I can describe it. And I think I will try that product after all. I mean what can it hurt trying it.

Water pump impellers made of iron on these models? If so the thing is probably disintegrating into the system, which will make it hard to clean and could involve a new rad, heater core and hoses + a good flushing to get most of it out.

Always a coolant filter option

I have been emailing a rep from champion labs (Luberfiner) and have received a recommendation of this filter, which is hard to find.

The base you need for the spin on filter is LWHB4861 - I think you have to order from them directly, the base is approx 100$ with 3/8 inch threaded ports

Here is one of the later emails from him.

We offer a universal mounting base just like a oil filter base for the spin on style filters. Heavy Duty trucks and busses use this type of filter for their cooling systems. I have attached a picture of our mounting base. I have also attached a spec sheet and drawing of 1 of the coolant filters we supply. Let me know if you have any further questions.
