Running Rotella 5w-30 full syn in stand by generator?

Was given a gallon of Rotella 5w30 multi vehicle Full Synthetic oil and wondering if it's safe to run in a portable generator? Have only used Honda 10w30 OPE oil. Temps will be from Vegas hot summers to 30 degree winters. Generator in question is a Honda EB 6500. Calls for 1 quart for oil change. No oil filter

Yes, the 5w30 is dual rated for gasoline & being Diesel rated as well it will stand up to the heat.

Usually you want a 40 weight oil in generators as they run 3,600rpm and if you run them at or more than half rated load the oil can get quite hot.
Best bet is to check the oil temperature and know for sure.

My Generac Dealer gave me a quart of straight 30 wt to use in my Inverter generator .

In the hot temperatures the 30 would be the more important number anyway. Rotella generally gets good showing on testing and additive pack. Should be fine.

Inverter generators don't run 3,600rpm all the time so 30wt is fine as long as you're not flogging it all the time.

I would stick with the 10w30. It better covers the temperature extremes you will encounter. Use the 5w30 in your car.

Yeah depends a lot on how you run it.
What I do is plug it into the heaviest load I can get for it and then some and see what the oil temperature is after it runs for a while. Then just run that oil. It's almost always going to end up being a 50 weight.

I don't have an RPM gauge on either of my inverter generators -

They run fast with eco mode off and no load - it is how I start them up

But even with eco mode off they still speed up when you plug in something with a heavy load -

With eco mode on the RPM seems to match the load - do you even own an inverter generator?
